Some suggestions for Kumbha Mela Organizers (IRVIN - USA)

May God bless you all. I have seen members letters on the subject relating to

organizing of Kumbha Mela in Irvin. Some one started questioning the organizers

about the authenticity of organizing a Kumbha Mela in USA where there is no

river, the mela is not associated with Surya Sankraman, the mela is not

associated with Jupiter Transit and so on.

 

This point has been taken up by me sometime ago and I gave a detailed reply

though I have nothing to do with the organizers and though I do not know who

they are and the circumstances led to taking such a decision.

 

Since a decision was taken by the organizers to perform Kumbha Mela, we may

have to appreciate the move to some extent. Some step to protect the Hindu

Dharma, some step to upkeep the Hindu ritual and some step to bring Sadhu Sant

together - is really worthy of appreciation. The Kumbha Mela is incidentally

associated with Pithru Paksh.

 

I suggested only one thing - that the organizers since taken a decision, they

can atleast educate the gathering on the ways to performing of pinda pradaan or

offering of tarpans to the departed souls. This is the least expected in a

Kumbha Mela.

 

Any group gathering such as Kumbha Mela should be of some support to Hindu

Religious activity and educating the public on the rituals to be performed. This

type of gathering should be a better platform for the organizers to distribute

material relating to rituals which can be retained by public for their reference

at any point of time now and later.

 

Some suggestions from my side to make the gathering a useful platform from all

corners. I do not say that I am a knowledgeable person but surely I can be of

some help in these matters due to performing of 484 yagnaas so far in my life

inclusive of a Historical Mega Event Shri Aswamedha Yaagam. If it is worthwile,

the following suggestions may please be implemented in the proposed Mela.

 

1) Prayaschita Sankalpam is one which is to be done in all Pushkar Melas or

Kumbha Melas. This may take a 15-20 minutes time and a group prayaschita

Sankalpam can be done while sprinkling the Holy of all river broght for the mela

on the gathering. A copy of the Sankalpam can be got printed and circulated for

instant use and for retention of the paper for future use.

2) Deva, Rishi, Pithru nitya jal tarpan kramam can be printed and distributed

to all. Those who are interested they can join separately to perform this tarpan

which is expected to discharge our debts to Divine forces, the masters and the

birth givers.

3) Tila tarpan / pinda Pradan can be organized for groups during the Mela so

that the gathering can take advantage of the platform.

4) Information relating to Dasa Daanaas/Shodasa Daanaas may be passed on to

the gathering so that interested persons can do the same for the elevation of

the departed souls.

5) If for any reason GODAANA - Cow offering - is not possible, a suitable

substitute may be suggested to the interested persons.

6) Group Havan may be arranged for the involvement of all. It is difficult for

people in America to perform Havan as is done in India, therefore, this would be

a better opportunity for the organizers to help the gathering in this area.

7) Specific and Authenticated information about the JYOTHIRLINGAAS AND ASTA

DASA SAKTI PEETHAAS is printed and distributed to all.

8) Sandhya Vandan Kramam may be printed and distributed.

9) Yagnopavitaas are made available to all at some cost or at no cost.

10) Pooja Vidhi Vidhan may be printed and distributed.
