Now that you're aware of the role planets have in shaping our character and destiny, don't you want to get to know them better? They're right up there – circling around, waiting for us to make a connection. Don't leave them hanging – use the mantras to speak to them. These ancient sounds are the key to inviting them into your life. Meditation and using the mantras will make your mind quiet enough to hear their insights, they have wisdom they want to share with you. WHAT IS MANTRA The word " mantra " is a Sanskrit word, made up of two root words. " Man " means " mind " or thinking, and " tra " means to " release or free " . Therefore the meaning is to free the mind and thinking from the material sphere of consciousness, thus transcending the physical world. Mantras have been brought to us from saints, yogis, Sadhus, and Maharishis who have practiced them for several thousand years. Mantras are sacred sound vibrations, which contain great spiritual power and energy. They can be used in rituals, whispered, or chanted. Chanting mantras produces harmony on all levels. Hindus believe that god, good health, fortune, and victory over enemies can all be attained by chanting the right mantra. Mantras are usually practiced for an area of life that one wants to improve. There are many categories of mantras a few of which include: curing disease; warding off negative planetary influences; thwarting an enemy's actions; distracting enemies, obtaining liberation… THE EFFECTS OF MANTRA A mantra is composed of sacred sound vibrations whose energy frequencies effect both the human sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. The parasympathetic nerves are spread in a fine network around the internal organs. The sympathetic nervous system generates the neuromotor response and influences the right and left sides of the brain. Mantra practice involves the left hemisphere of the brain and is therefore effective in increasing positive emotions. The intonation and melody, which are essential parts of mantra, remove negative emotions. In association with a symbol – the mantra provides the right hemisphere of the brain with a concrete image the object of emotional attachment. Mantra practice excites the emotions and gives suggestions to the mind. It affects both the chanter and the listener. MANTRA AND SOUNDS Sri Siva: Sounds are the building blocks of both matter and spirit. Matter is the expression of sounds. So is spirit or soul. Sub-atomic particles or even (sound) waves are also expressions of matter. The spirit or the soul, whether it is enlightened or dumb, has its own sound counterpart. Simply put, sound waves create the soul and matter, but still no one has clearly understood the mystery behind sounds. The story of the Tower of Babel is illuminating in this respect. In the beginning, every human race spoke only one language and they understood each other. They built the Tower of Babel so that they could climb up to heaven. God however did not like the human beings building this tower into the heavens. He confused the humans by putting different language divisions in their minds (in the Bible it says that God " confused their tongues " ). With many people speaking different languages, they did not understand each other. Thus, the humans were forced to abandon the tower. There is a lot of meaning in this story beyond what is visible at the superficial level. For now we will look into only one aspect of the story. It is the aspect of communication. We communicate through sounds. Sounds have knowledge built into them. In fact, the only means of communication is through sounds. It's a tragedy that modern science has not yet understood the relationship between knowledge and sounds waves. Nevertheless, the seers of India knew that sound was everything. They knew that sound and consciousness are synonyms. They knew that matter and sound are synonyms. Exploring these concepts will open up new avenues within science and technology. The seers of India classified sounds into vowels and consonants. This is in agreement with the study of all languages. Every language has both vowels and consonants and they are more or less similar to each other. But the Indian seers perceived within the vowels and consonants extraordinary knowledge and power. They were not too thrilled by the use of sounds to communicate social discourses or discursive thoughts (i.e., processes by which cultural mean They saw that the pre-thought level of the sounds constituted the common ground in which matter and energy became interchangeable. The word and the object it denotes remain without distinction at this level. Functioning from this pre-thought level, the seer gained the ability of thought manifestation. The seer thinks about an apple and the apple materializes before him in three-dimensional reality. Manifestation techniques that I teach rely heavily on this concept. You use some seed sounds or " bijas " . only through the grace of the Guru. Nevertheless, everyone will benefit through the general understanding that I have put forth in this note. The seers called these mantras " the mother " (matrika). Just as the mother creates the baby, the mantra also creates whatever you want. In the upcoming Golden Age those eligible will receive this secret knowledge of thought manifestation. People will then understand the power of sounds. MEDITATION AND MANTRA Mantra Meditation involves repeating a pure sound vibration known as a mantra. The goal of this repetition is inner peace – harmony of mind, body, and soul. Mantra Meditation enables one to concentrate their energies, which are often wasted due to attention on vast amounts of exterior impressions. These practices were established many years ago by Yogis and seers in their meditation. Mantras were created in higher states of consciousness and were used by the wise to achieve their desires. In practice " japa-mala " or japa beads are used. These are a strand of beads carved from the sacred tulasi tree, or other woods, or seeds such as Rudraksha beads. Other materials such as crystal, jewels, gold, or silver are also used but these are generally used for mantras to gain material wealth. The strand contains 108 beads as 108 is a holy number. At the top of the strand a unique bead exists. This bead is not used for chanting. Beginning from the first bead the bead is gently rolled between the thumb and middle finger while the mantra is repeated. The repetitions are chanted one per bead until the unique bead is reached. Using beads helps the concentration and helps to dissipate nervous energy. A strong Vedic principle about chanting mantras is " the more done, the more benefits we will receive " . If one has extreme problems or they want to profoundly alter their karma, mantras can be performed for longer periods of time on a daily basis. PLANETARY MANTRAS The planet's influence plays an important, often neglected role in our lives. They are often responsible for the phase our lives go through. For example, if a planet is weak during a specific period, it will emit negative energy. In order to neutralize this effect, we would need to strengthen our weaker planets. Performing the mantra for the planet is one way to strengthen a weak planet. Proper pronunciation, plays an essential role in the recitation of a mantra, apart from the melody. These mantras are most effective when chanted individually. One should find that chanting will relax the mind, heart, and breath. In our personal meditation section we have chosen the following Mantras for the healing of planetary effects: Planet Day of the Week Mantra Sun Sunday Om Suryaya Namaha Moon Monday Om Chandraya Namaha Mars Tuesday Om Mangalaya Namaha Mercury Wednesday Om Budhaya Namaha Jupiter Thursday Om Gurave Namaha Venus Friday Om Shukraya Namaha Saturn Saturday Om Sanecharaya Namaha Rahu Om Rahave Namaha Ketu Om Ketave Namaha MANTRA MEDITATION TIPS 1. Relax and sit erect. Do not tire yourself trying to sit like this for a long period of time. This will come automatically with practice. Sit cross-legged if possible, however the most important thing is to find a comfortable position that can be maintained for a period of time. The best posture for meditation is the " lotus " posture. 2. Choose the mantra for the planets that you would like to work with for the day. 3. Choose to meditate online or download the Mantra to practice offline. 4. Relax yourself and begin to concentrate on the image. Do not overstrain your eyes – you do not have to stare – blink normally. Continue to breathe normally. 5. If an external thought comes into your mind try not to focus on it – keep your attention on the image and chant the mantra in your mind. Thoughts will come and go, this is very natural. Just keep bringing yourself back by concentrating on hearing and chanting. 6. As your practice improves your meditation will become more effective and your concentration should improve. Changes should be noticed on a spiritual, emotional, and physical level. 7. It is recommended to practice two times a day – once in the morning and once in the evening. Meditate on only one planet per session. Practice sessions can be for a period of 15 minutes each. As you feel more comfortable the sessions can be increased to 30 minutes. 8. It is best to find a quiet time and a place to chant. 9. It is better to chant for 5 minutes with full concentration than to chant for one hour while disturbed. 10. It helps to create a spiritually conducive atmosphere by lighting incense and doing breathing exercises to relax the mind and body. 11. While chanting allow the sounds to " wash " over your being and mind. 12. To be effective mantras must be pronounced correctly and usually recited in a soft, melodic, focused manner.
