My dear friends and like minded persons

Goddess Jogulamba Devi of Alampuram in Mahboobnagar District

Yesterday i.e. 8th December was a land mark in our lives. Myself, my wife and

several others left for Alampuram in the early hours. Alampuram Jogulamba is

the 5th Sakti Peeth out of total eighteen. The temple is around 230 kilometers

from Hyderabad and it is hardly 40-50 km from Kurnool. It is on the banks of

River Tunga and River Krishna. It is a Junction of two rivers. During floods

to the river, the entire temple gets submerged under waters even today through a

huge wall is constructed to protect the temple from flood waters.

The temple of Goddess Jogulamba and Lord Bala Brahmeswara Swamy was believed

to have been built nearly 1500 years ago. Muslim rulers tried to destroy this

Holy Shrine and it was protected by some of the residents and the main deity was

kept in Lord Bala Brahmeswara Swamy temple till 2005. During 2005 local

residents took interest to rebuild the temple and as a result, today we are able

to take the blessings of Goddess most conveniently. The entire area is declared

as of archeological importance and treated as a protected monument.

There is one more interesting item considered as of archeological importance

in the temple and that is a tree – Sami Vriksh. During the course of my journey

to various places in India, I never a found a tree to be declared as of

archeological importance, but here is one such.

8th December happened to be the dark fourteenth day of Kartik which is noted

as Maas Sivarathri – an auspicious day for Lord Shiva. Goddess granted us

permission to perform Havan in the temple area in a suitably built Havan Kund.

It was a rare and very rich experience for all of us to take bath in the fresh

waters of River Krishna and perform Havan on such a Holy day. After taking the

blessings of the Goddess, we started our journey back to Hyderabad and on our

way we crossed River Krishna. Just on the banks of the river we entered into a

very ancient temple said to have been visited by the Great Sage Bhagavan Veda

Vyas. It is Lord Hanuman Temple and the village is called as Beechpalli

(Dichpalli).

I am giving information pertaining to my visits to you all, so that any one of

you who is desirous of spending some time on pilgrimage may consider this letter

as guidance and proceed further. Wishing you all the best and May Goddess

Jogulamba keep you all nearer to Mantra Sidhi.

Yours truly,
