My dear friends and like minded persons

REG: SANKATA HARA CHATURDHI

The dark fourth day of every month is called as Sankashta Chaturdhi or Sankata

Hara Chaturdhi which is believed to remove all obstacles and hurdles in ones

life. Chaturdhi is denoted to Lord Ganesh and therefore Sankata Hara Chaturdhi

is celebrated for Lord Ganesh. There are many way of worshipping Lord Ganesh.

“Tarpana Priyah Ganapathi…” – as per this saying, Lord Ganesh is believed to be

pleased through Tarpana – offering of sacred material like water, milk etc

through release of the same from the fore fingers of right hand (Down Position).

The other way of worshipping is offering of Modaks; performing of Havan;

decorating with Holy Grass; Abhishek with sacred materials like Cow Milk, Cow

Ghee, Curds, Honey and Pure Sugar and so on. Though there are several methods

in different parts of the country to prepare Modaks, the suggested custom is to

make out the Modak using Rice suji, jeera, chenna etc. Then again such modaks

are better to be in the numbers of 21, 42 etc in the cycle of 21.

As per Ganapathi Atharva Upanishad, “yo modaka sahasrena vanchita phala

mavapnoti…” who ever offers 1000 modaks to Lord Ganesh, his desires gets

fulfilled. This is to be performed particularly to fulfill an ambition without

any hurdles. In our experience, we found this 1000 Modaks as a wonderful

remedial measure in reaching the goals without much discomfort. Incidentally we

found it difficult to distribute 1000 modaks to the devotees after offering of

the same to Lord Ganesh. As such we found a way where 1000 modaks are offered

to the Holy Fire in a Havan specially arranged for this purpose while retaining

a few Modaks for distribution as a Prasad. But then, this havan is a bit costly

due to consumption of more Ghee and sacred fire wood due to wet Modaks. We have

performed Havan everyday using 1000 modaks and some times we also performed the

Holy Havan using 21000 modaks in the recently held Shri Aswamedhayaagam (

www.ashwamedhayaagam.org).

We have performed Holy Havan using 3000 or a little more Modaks on 26th

January 2008 at our temple Shri Brahma Maanasa Sarva Sidhi Kshetram situated in

Gurramguda around 12 kilometers from Koti centre of

Hyderabad(http://brahmamaanasasarvasidhi.blogspot.com). Perhaps this is the

only one temple in India for Lord Brahma and Goddess Saraswathi together, we are

fortunate to manage this temple at the Lotus Feet of the Lords.

This Havan using 1000 modaks or a little more will be performed every month

henceforth in the temple on the Sankata Hara Chaturdhi. Those who ever are

interested they may give us their names, birth star, Gothra etc details and

Havan will be performed for the fulfillment of the desires of such devotees.

You may use the opportunity at the temple, or you may kindly make note of the

system so that it remains useful to you if time demands.

Yours truly,

HARA HARA MAHADEVA
