Guest guest
My dear friends and like minded persons I do not know whether you would consider this as a part of “The Art of Managing Fear”. There are other parts to be still compiled in the series. Now I desire to caption this mail as “HOW TO REMAIN MORE AND MORE AFFECTIONATE AND HOW TO CHANGE THE ATTITUDE”. When I desired to write on this subject, there was a serious question in front of me whether it would forever be possible to change the Basic culture of any human being (the hard disk of any human being). I am convinced that I have an answer. I present an example, one wife and husband are living together each finding fault in the others and this continued for years. Age and time passed on amidst all in-fights. Suddenly one day, the husband died and the wife could not digest the situation that she has to remain alone and alone in the same house. She started remembering those days and started finding the good deeds of her husband though she was to search for them with great difficulty. She tried to recollect only such of those pleasant deeds of her husband and shed tears as she has to pass the future time alone. This is a common example as we come across such situations in our life very often. Sometimes we do not believe all this. I go for another live example, take for instance we entered a desert or our place is effected by drought and we struggle hard even to get drinking water. This position can even now be witnessed in a few thousands of villages of our country. I recollect those days of my stay in an un-electrified village where people especially ladies used to walk to a kilometer distance to collect a pot full of water from the deep wells. I observed that 80% time of the housewives was wasted only for collecting water which otherwise would have been utilized for some productive or income generating activity. Way back 1976 these incidents gave rise to a heart burning article “The Reforms I expect in India – The Next Generation” and the series of articles were placed in front of you from time to time through this mail system. We got Independence sixty years ago and we fail to provide drinking water in most of the villages, and of course, this subject is out of the topic. Back to the topic, we understand the value of water and we do not allow any one to waste water. In other words, we show more and more affection to the water. Human tendency is such; we do not recognize the boons we enjoy. We do not realize practically the value of eye; only a blind man recognizes; we do not understand the value of ear – only a deaf can realize; we do not respect our parents for having granted us a healthy body – only an ill fated patient can realize and this list is never ending. How many of us conveyed our respects to HOLY MOTHERS on the recently ended Mothers Day? Did we realize that a Mother anxiously waits to listen to her children – more particularly – an affectionate voice? Perhaps we have not called her, since we do not realize the importance of her as long as she physically exists. When we go to Tirupathi for Darshan of Lord, we turn back repeatedly to have one more – one more darshan, as if we are missing an opportunity and all this amidst rough pushing by the guards. The value of Darshan increases at that moment, don’t you agree? Now, let us assume for a while that the other person whom we talk is not existent in the next minutes, the way of approach surely changes and our behavioral attitude unintentionally permits us to remain quite soft and polite. In the day to day routine, let us practice that all that we come across or interact, pro-act, react, are not permanent in nature. Surely we try to change our attitude and we remain more and more affectionate. I have no intention to create a fear psychosis, but my intention of writing this letter is to mention that we remain more and more attached when we make up our mind that “nothing is permanent” in this world. I do not know, intellectuals of high caliber like you, accept this or otherwise. As a student of life-time, I stand for correction of my ideas always and forever.
