dear shriramji,

namaste.i would like to know the importance of

chakrathazhwar(maha sudarshan).what does his worship bring and

the mantras meant for him.who are qualified to perform mahasudarshana

homam(so many people claim to perform it nowadays).there are

also many srividya upasakas who extol his virtue.is there a correlation?

Dear Ambaal,

 

This is a discussion platform for shaktha.But still since Shivani

Gaaru has approved your posting in my absence. Iam obliged to answr

it.

 

 

First the mantras must be got from a vaishnavite who has done

sadhana for sri sudarshana.(Sudarshana mahopasaka).

 

Second the tradition of the vaishnavites has been for men to do

the sudarshana upasana unlike shaktha where men and women freely

become upasakas or upasakis.

 

So,if you must follow the rules then you must b initiated from a

male upasaka.

 

Chakkarathalwar is sudarshana and he is raised to the status of

a 'Mahapurusha' by the title alwar(aaal means man/person in tamil and

war is a title denoting respect) so some niyamas must be adhrered to

in his worship

 

Thirdly, He is a ugra devata and so one must be very careful with

respect to sex,drink,food.

 

I personally do not know srividya upasakas recommending

sudarshana homa. But if they have done then they would said in a

general context.

 

The benefits of doing sudarshana homa

 

is primarily to

 

1. Ward off enemies and calamities

2. To ward of pending problems

3. Increase safty for house.

 

These days greedy people have also added to the list

 

1. wealth

2.Health

3.Prosperity

 

.....

 

Maybe tommorow on might even add:

 

1. Dominion over the whole universe!!
