Guest guest
Dear Members, Many of you might be aware of Lord Dattareya as being a great Upasaka of Srividya. He is also the Guru of Rishi Parasurama who is the author of the great book on Srividya upasana: Parasurama Kalpataru. (Parasurama Rishi) This is yet another miracle story connceted with the temple. There are many stories but I have permission to type out only a few because most involve the private matters of people which cannot be openly discussed in a public forum. This incident happened years ago when a great yogi and Datta Mahopasaka by the name Godavari swami visited Chennai. He was a man of arduous sadhanas for his favourite deity and was a veritable Datta amsa Himself. He was quite humble and had certain divine powers accrued over years of his intense sadhanas. Despite being a great yogi and seeing Datta in all,he loved Divine mother and other Gods too very much. There are many versions of Srividya upasana The prominent being: 1. Dakshinachara which comprise of the Keralachara,Dravidaachara,Cheraacharaa,Pandiyaachara,Cholaacharaa, Draavidaachara,Andhraachara, konkanaachaara, etc. 2. Uttarachara is another subsect. 3. Vamachara which is an entirely different Paddhathi(where the very srichakra is reversed and used for nefarious purposes.I prefer to remain silent here) Since Godavari Swami was aware of Andhrachara and the broader gamut of Dakshinachara and also the connection of Dattatreya with Srividya Upasana. He decided to take a tour of all shakthi and other important temples south of Andhra(i.e, Tamilnadu and Kerala). Nanganallur temple was not on his itenary. It is not a famous temple and is an Ashram temple and only a few chosen people really know about the temple and the deity's greatness even in those days. As he was resting in Madras(as Chennai was known in those days),he asked his disciples to help him pack his baggage for the next train journey. Suddenly he was Dattareya Himself doing Akasa pradakshina(Circumambulation in the air) for the temple's gopuram thrice and then going elsewhere.Dattareya normally crosses over many temples and doesn't care much for rituals but for this temple alone he paid his respects with his akasa pradakshina. This is because He too knows where the real power centre is!Dattareya roams about from one place to another. (Sri Guru Dattatreya ) He was taken aback and asked which temple was that. The disciples admitted their ignorance in this matter. He then saw with his divine eyes that it was NANGANALLUR SREE SARVAMANGALA RAJARAJESHWARI DEVI TEMPLE!!! (Rajagopala Swami of Nanganallur Sree Rajarajeshwari temple) He then immidiately ran to the temple leaving his suitcases as it is and told this whole story to the smiling Swami Rajagopala and had a darshan of Rajarajeshwari Devi to his heart's content. (Rajarajeshwari Devi of Nanganallur) Thus even a great God like Dattareya pays his respects to Sree Rajarajeshwari devi of Nanganallur. Blessed indeed are those who have read or heard this story. And blessed indeed are people who are associated with this temple atleast in a small way. Draam Dattareyaaya Swaha! Hreem Rajarajeshwaryai Namah Swaha!
