Dear All, I have and still am receiving a spate of e-mails on Prathyangira Devi. Seems like 'Kali-purusha' is really catching up! People are interested in the Devi for the Samhara Kriya alone.I was not intown for the past few days and when I saw many many e-mails dedicated to this sole subject,

I thought let me dole out something more and end the thread here and discuss something on Avarana Devis next posting if possible. Many expressed their intention to know what the other member was referring to when she(I presume) was referring to 'Yaam Kalpayanthi...' For the un-initiates into Prathyangira Devi, I would like to tell that this Devi is also called Atharvana Bhadrakali. The reference here is to the Atharvana Rik 'Yaam Kalpayanthi Noryaha Krooraam Krithyaam Vadhoomiva......' The mantra thus thus goes for the first verse. This means" My enemies even if it is in the form of a woman(it was not dharmic in ancient days to fight or kill women) who sent on me a 'kroora krithya'(a form of evil energy), with the help of the inherent shakthi in this vedic mantra please direct the energy

elsehwere to back to the source which sent it''. This is chanted in a particular Chandas and only then it will have an effect both while chanting mentally or while giving a Homaahuti. This

along with 59 other mantras/vedic verses form the crux of the Pippalaada Shaaka Saparisishtam Prathyangira Sooktham. One can also do a Prathyangira Sooktha Homa/Havana with Kusha grass and green pepper with the 60 mantras either with or without samputeekarana. I intend to reveal no further... Mantras are not products of human wisdom but flashes of the divine sound waves

experienced by the ancient seers who came into supersensuous contact with the universal truth. The mantras are not mere sound. They possess the energy of the word and are to be articulated. As mantras are sound vibrations and are oral in character they are learnt by rote normally and very rarely by paravaani by advanced yogis. Mantras be it Prathyagira Moola Mantra upon which the discussion was based or any other mantra has three main components, viz., Rishi, Chandas and Devata. The Mantras are revelations of Rishis. They experienced the sound flashed in their mind and expressed themselves in such mantras. They are not Mantra Kartas but Mantra Drishtas. Two such Mantra Drishtas-Prathyangiras and Angeerasa were in question and when I verified with the Vedic pundit he was of the same opinion as that I proferred intuitively. Also,

I broached upon Prathichina Angeerasa and he said the same thing which I said in the few postings back. Prathyangira Mantra puts one in direct touch with the Divine energy of Prathyangira Devi. The recitation of the mantra is an excellent means to have a darshan of Prathyangira which I was blessed with thrice and once I felt the presence. However, I have stopped the practice upon the advice of my Gurunatha. This mantra must be used for Gnaana and not for samharana. The reciter of the mantra must have proper qualifications vz proper moral character, requisite practical skills(I mean Homachara, Mantrachara etal),adequate intellecuatl grounding in the Vidya, fearlessness, sincereity in reciting the mantra, correct pronunciation(if the letter 'ksham' is mispronounced the 'bliss' syllable will turn to be a 'curse' syllable, loudness of voice(this mantra requires loudness of voice,below-nabhi sound),proper breathing, etc. He should recite the mantra remaning pure and with a concentrated mind. Nirmala Hridya...Vimala Mana... Iam reminded here of Shankara's verse in Vivekachoodamani, Avidyaahetavah Kamaah Kaamamoolaah Pravrittayaha... The aspirant should discriminate between the real(gnaana) from the unreal('enemies').The mind must be turned away from the unreal. It is only then he can be qualified to invesitage into the Brahman of this

mantra. One member was asking me whether this mantra is an Aagama Mantra. This is a technical question(I normally refrain from becoming too pedantic or technical) which I will answer in the negative technically. Some may object to this because it is an Atharvana Vedic mantra. But I support this veda. Agama Mantras are revelations of the Rishis and are eternal truths. In both these aspects the mantra coruscates beautifully and hence my affirmation. While the vedas are general in character, the Agamas are specific in imparting religious practice centering around a single deity and worship done in temples. The Agamas are the second authoritative revelations relating to the temple construction, layout, worship, etc. Agamas fall under three broad classes, viz the Shivagamas,The Shakthagamas and the Vaishnavagamas. here are about 92 Shivagamas 77

Shakathagamas and 48 Vaishanavagamas. The Agamas have four Padas---Charya,Kriya, Yoga and Gnaana The first part contains mantras of two lines(injunctions for priests-Dos and Donts) Kriya Pada Extols the worship and deals with the selection of site, architectural design, rules for preists(other rules),daily puja, annual festival, etc Yoga Pada discloses meditative methods Jnaana Pada reveals the nature of G0D-S0UL relations and means of liberation. Now, as I mentioend before there exists not one but many tantreeka versions of the Prathyangira

Mantra. Now, Tantreeka marga cognizes the human body as the network of nervous system with the nerve chakras or nodes. The principal nerve nodes are called the Nadi, Chakras or lotus centre and these nodal points store enormous energy power. In additon, there are three Ida, Pingala and Shushoomna energy channels. The tantreeka mantra awakens the spiritual power by rousing the Kundalini, the serpent power, which lies in the chakra like a coiled snake.

Kundalini shakthi is a psychophysical phenomenon. There are 64 types of Tantreeka practices. 'Chathushashttyaa tantraihi Sakalamthisamdhaaya Bhuvanam'--Soundarya Lahiri verse 31 The

tantra practices or shastras were told by Lord Shiva to Parvathy in Kailash. Though Kaivalyopanishad in verse 12 says Tantra system is not conducive for Moksha it does not mean Tantric system is inferior. Infact the Upanishads were not Rishi Proktha But was written by their disciples and hence contains a bit of falsity. Many people think that everything is Rishi Proktha. Now, this is Rishi-Maya as to why they engage in such leelas. That will then mean as per Kaivalyopanishad that even Srividya Tantra of the Dakshinachara which does not contain sensual gratification as non-trascendental. What the upanishad was aiming

at was to warn people of many other tantric practices which contain sensual gratification but even there the bondage of rebirths and transmigration can be overcome if one is pure and does the tantreeka parikriyas with a quest for knowledge and under a Guru Mahodaya. Also the Upanishad classification for various Vedas do not have Kaivalya Upanishad and it seems like a later corruption by incompetent brahmins. Atharvana Veda Samhita has Paippalaya and Sownaka and Brahamana is Gopatha. Some prominent upashads of this Veda is Dattatreya Upanishad,Hayagreeva,Garuda,Prasna,Mundaka, Mandukaya,Atharvasira,Sandilya,Sarabha,Tripuratapini, Bhasmajabala,Gopalatapini, etc. The causal stress of the Parashabda is the cause for the manifestation of the mantras. Many concepts which the NLP specialists follow today were there (in a far more refined and divine way) in the vedas for example--the process of auto-suggestion is there in Aksheebhyaam Te Sooktha of the Rig Veda. The Prathyangira mantra can be said in the Manasika way if it is a Vedic mantra and Vachanika way if it

is any other mantra. The ancient Vedic seers loved Satya-truth and Ritha-Order(divine order). This is much akin to the Taoistic way of order and truth. Times when the Rita goes awry then the Samhara Kriya is used but this needs great Tejas and not all can do.(Iam sure no one in this Kaliyuga can perform such parikriyas without incurring certain amount of bad karma). Regarding the homa vishya which I gave on this issue. It was just a pointer and

I intend to discuss no further on this dangerous subject(Prathyangira Homa). Rituals should create an atmosphere of holiness and sanctity. If I start doling out information on Ugraprathyangira Homas which many people even fear to voice out loud, I would be vitiating the atmosphere. Please find a platform elsehwhere for your

queries. The glorious lustre of blazing fire, sweet perfumes of the burnt ghee, the blades of grass, cooked offering of rice(Havisanna),crushed soma and all other materials of a Havana,Homa,Yaga or Yagna have their dierct purifactory effect on the mind of the worshippers. Right from the day when the atman is in the mother's womb to the day when it leaves the body on the funeral pyre, mantra uccharana, vidhi, dhayana and niyamas have to followed but first one should seek the two most fundamental things.... Satyam and Ritam Tadeva Ritam tadu Satyam Aahu:

Tadeva Brahma paramam kaveenaam (All-knowing sages and seers declare that the Brahman is indeed ritam, satyam and the Ultimate Reality or Parabrahmam.) Om Swasthishivaadi Gurubhyon Namaha! Yours yogically, Shreeram Balijepalli
