Guest guest
Dear Kannanji, One small correction in the Durgashtakam you have mentioned... It is "Kaatyaayani" and not "Kartyayani". The first means the daughter of Katyayana Maharishi and latter if at all there is a word, means the 'daughter of the doer/doing'!! A small syllable misplaced will distort the meaning. Now mantras are powerful especially in ancient languages like Sanskrit, Hebrew, Aramaic(the language spoken by Jesus) because the words, forms form the moment you pronounce the word or verse in Sanskrit. This has been the subject and research of Cymatics and also an old experiement done on Eidophone where a Bhairava stotra was chanted by Vedic priests and a figure of a man with a dog(apparently Bhairava who has a dog with Him) was formed. Then they tried with Mary chants and a Madonna type of figure was formed. Now this is wrought by two things which according to Munibhava Bodhini Sutras: 1. The mantra/word/beeja/veejaakshara samputa/verse/chant/shrutijari/veda has been done sadhana upon and still in the sadhanic endeavour by the deity. In other words 'Haum' beeja associated with Lord Shiva was done sadhana upon by Nagendrahara(Lord Shiva) and thus the veeja belongs to Lord Shiva and His law body still does it. 2. The mantra taps the cosmic energy inherent in the deity from ether and contacts the deity and the presence is felt. Ok, now coming to your question... Yes there are many Durgashtakams. I had given in the posting that anyone with a good knowledge of sanskrit(or maybe even with a smattering of it) can compose verses in sanskirt and term it as a shloka or mantra. But some are only powerful because the 'deity kataksha/kripa' is there for that stotra as some devotee had composed it and prayed with intense feelings for years and brought about a vision of the deity and got Her/His grace for the stotra. There might be many more Durgashtakams, maybe even siddha Durgashtaka Stotras...the possibilities are many and they exist. For example there is one Durgashtaka Shatanama stotra in Vishwasaaratantra. This is also erroneoulsy called Durgaashtakam but it deals with hundred odd names of DurgaDevi revealed by Eshwaraa. I have added both Durgashatakam and this Durgaashtaka Shatanama Stotra in my other group for files....Rajarajeshwari_Kalpataru_files Also Devi Mahatmyam has been added(English translation) to the sister group. Devi Mahatmyam contains one Durga litany. Thus there are many but the one is popular. For that matter there are many Vishnu Sahasranamas but the most popular one is the one given by Bheeshma(Om Vishwam vishnur...) Hope this clarifies the issue... I have one more Durgashtakam, got it from a Malayalam Astrological Magazine (old). This Durgashtakam starts with"Kartyayani mahayogi khadgapana danurdhari Khadgadharini chandi sri durge devi namosthuthe"and ends with (before phalasruti)"Ashtabahu mahasatve ashtami navami priyeAshtahasa priye bhadre durga devi namosthute"Have you ever heard of this stotra or ashtakam. Please let me know on this.Regards,KannanRajarajeshwari_Kalpataru , Group Owner wrote:>> Dear Kannanji,> > > > Though Ashtakam means eight verses Durgashtakam contains 9 but it actually is eight, the ninth being Phalashruti(the benefit of doing Durgaashtakam).> > > > This Ashtakam is a Siddha Stotra of Durga Devi. Siddha stotra or mantra means that a Siddha did it and attained the Darshan of the deity and an assurance that whosoever does the mantra or stotra will attain the same vision.ANyone can write stotras and mantras with some knowlede of Sanskrit, what is seen is the 'man behind the message not the message' and 'faith behind the ritual not the words'.> > > > > This Ashtakam is also chanted with shraddha for appeasement of Rahu Bhagavan.Devotees enjoy lasting peace, positive energy, infinite power, fame, fearlessness, kind attention and love from Mother Durga. They achieve chaturvidh phal-dharma, arth, kam and moksha-all four goals of human life-righteousness, affluence in every area of life, fulfillment of all desires and finally the ultimate goal of life-the enlightenment.Friday is the day of Shri Durga Devi. It is recommended to listen or to the Ashtakam and other stotras of Shri Durga on Friday especially Rahu Kala. Some devotees burn a ghee lamp in a lemon during that time but there is no mention in Shastras to do such things.I think it followed by imitating what the Shasta devotees(Iyyappa devotees) burn in a big Indian Gooseberry(Amla) a ghee lamp.> > > > One's desire will be fulfilled if one gets up early in the morning when the human vibes are at a low and spiritual vibes of Rishis are at a peak and chants the Ashtaka either Once or eleven times or if one is capable 108 times.(Adhikasya Adhikaphalam--if one does more one gets more!)> > > > > I will later incoporate it into the files section of my files group of this main group.> I have given below the Durgaashtakam who wanted in ITRANS format hope this suffices...> > If anyone can make a PDF of this posting and file it in our files group or send me the file.
