Guest guest
Dear Shreeram Balijepalli, Thank you very much for the info on Vijayasundari. I have another simple question. What is Gauri's vehicle? Is it a species of Land Monitor Lizard or Monitor Lizard that lives in water. I have always been curious about this------Buvaneswar
Guest guest
Dear Buvaneswarji, If you are refrring to images where 'Gauri' is shown sitting on a 'Monitor Lizard that lives in water' with Shiva in the picture, then it probably refers to Ganga Devi whose vahana is the Ganges Gharial (which is a slim version of a crocodile, hence the appearance of a 'Monitor Lizard that lives in water'). The vehicle of Gauri is Lion as far as my knowledge goes and in some pcitures she is seen seated on a tiger. Please see some old postings of mine where I have dwelled in lenght on the subject of Vahanas of Devi. Guest guest
Namaste, My first experience with Godhika was a vision about a 2 years ago. I wasn't doing any sort of sadhana. I awoke to find a huge lizard sitting on my body it was friendly and felt very positive and seemed connected to Ambe Gauri who is my ishta devata. It disappeared and I thought no more about it until this year I came across a new book which is a Dictionary of Hindu Gods. The book was sold before I could buy it or write the title down but it said Gauri's vehicle is a monitor lizard .I had always felt vehicle of Gauri was tiger, lion or white bull as mahagauri is depicted sitting on white bull when a navadurga. As far as the internet the only references are that godhika is vehicle of Gauri mentioned on names for hindu girls and also reference to Mangal Chandi's vehicle being Godhika. I speculate that it's probably specific to Bengali traditions that Gauri's vehicle is Godhika.Maybe someone with knowledge of Bengali traditions will know the annswer.Kalika purana supposedly mentions sacrifices of monitor lizard to Chandi Mangal and gives it as her vehicle I am told. Maybe if someone knows Bengali tradions on this site they may have the answer. (By the way my first exposure to Hinduism was 25 years ago thru Ramakrishna Mission (Bengali traditions) here in the USA .My current Sri Vidya Guru is Sri Karunamayi in Bangalore. I converted to Hinduism 23 years ago .My grandparents were schoolteachers and missionaries (Americans )in India and my mother who was born in Poona then left India at the age of 20 after the partition of India and Pakistan .In 20 years they were unsuccessful in converting even one Indian to Christianity. Needless to say my mother was horrified when I became a Buddhist at 17 then a Hindu at 23 years of age and then a professional astrologer. She eventually accepted it.I am now 47 years of age.Karma has a strange way of working out in families although I have heard it is relatively common for Christian missionaries in India to have children and grandchildren to convert to Hinduism)--Buvaneswar Rajarajeshwari_Kalpataru , " para_anuloma " <para_anuloma wrote: > > Dear Buvaneswarji, > > If you are refrring to images where 'Gauri' is shown sitting on > a 'Monitor Lizard that lives in water' with Shiva in the picture, then > it probably refers to Ganga Devi whose vahana is the Ganges Gharial > (which is a slim version of a crocodile, hence the appearance of > a 'Monitor Lizard that lives in water'). > > The vehicle of Gauri is Lion as far as my knowledge goes and in some > pcitures she is seen seated on a tiger. > > Please see some old postings of mine where I have dwelled in lenght on > the subject of Vahanas of Devi. > > Yours yogically, > > Shreeram Balijepalli > > Rajarajeshwari_Kalpataru , " buvaneswar3 " > <buvaneswar3@> wrote: > > > > Dear Shreeram Balijepalli, > > > > Thank you very much for the info on Vijayasundari. > > > > I have another simple question. > > > > What is Gauri's vehicle?
