Guest guest
Dear Verma ji, Here are some jottings on Bala Upasana... In Srividya Upasana after Maha Ganapathy upasana comes Bala Upasana in importance. Many Srividya adepts feel that Bala Mantra Upasana is the foundation for the super structure of Srividya related mantras like Panchadasi and Shodasi. Bala is an Angadevata of Sri Lalitha Rajarajeshwari Devi, therefore one who worships this Angadevata and then worships Devi will obtain fruitful results. Amba in Her desire to frolick as a young girl of age 9 chose the Bala Amsa.' Balaa leelaa vishishtawaath Baalethi Kathithapriye'--Tripura Rahasyam Quote. The name Bala comes in Lalitha Sahasranama too as 'Baala Leelavinodini' It is said that if one gets the blessings of the 'daughter' one gets the blessings of the 'mother' easily. Bala's root mantra is 'aim....sauh' and variations of this mantra are used in her daily ritual. Many tantrik devatas have manuals structured along similar lines. The devata is first visualised as residing in the heart, then later drawn out through the breath and "placed" in the yantra. On installation or invocation, various ritual accessories are offered, and the 1,000 adjectives (names) of the particular deity recited. The Devi is then drawn 'back' into one's heart, and the ritual concludes with various elements "cleaning up" the area of worship. The five limbs of a ritual panchanga are Patala, Paddhati, Kavacha (Armour), 1,000 Names, and Stotra. The first gives the unfolding of the mantra, usually in coded form. It also describes the meditation image and the yantra of the devata, as well as various optional rites. The second limb describes the ritual worship, including worship of the avarana or attendants of the devata, which are really aspects of the god or goddess. The kavacha is an "armour" used to ward off evil and which may either be recited or written and then worn on the body. The fourth limb consists of the 1,000 names, of which there are very many sets in the tantrik literature. The fifth, the Stotra, is the hymn of praise of the ishtadevata, the tutelary devata of a tantrik sadhaka There is even a Khadgamala called 'Balambika Khadgamala' which contains Her names along with Avarana deities. One can worship with this Khadgamala(apart from the normal Devi Khadgamala) to invoke Her blessings. Bala's Dhyana shloka contains the name 'Aruna Kirana Jaalai' which refers to Her creamy complexion is similar to Sri Sooktha reference to Devi as 'Aditya Varna..' In Sowbhagya Sanjeevini,Bala is eulogized as 'Udayath Aditya Sankaasham Bilvakaanana Madhyakam Tanumadhyaam Shriyam Dhyayeth Alakshmeer parihaarineem' -She who is resplendent as the rising sun,one who resides in the middle of Bilva forest, one who is of short stature and who removes poverty-such a deity I adore' For the Rik -'Adityavarne...Alakshmee', in Sowbhagya the following is the Prayogam: This rik is to be chanted one lakh times-Lakshmi and Saraswathy Kataksham accures. And the sixth syllable of Panchadasi "Ha" is referred to by this mantra. This mantra which connotes the Pranava of the Gyatahri Mantra confers bliss and Slavation to the chanter. After the 1 lac japa if one does one-tenth of the mantra uccharana with Bilva fruits or ghee a Homa one completes a part of the purascharana. Ofcourse, the other parts being one tenth of that to be left as a libation(tarpana) and one-tenth of that as Brahama bhojana. The Bala mantra is "Ayieem...shreem'' if chanted as Anuloma viloma paddhathi(front and back) plus 36-nyasam is to be done for this mantra. This Sanjeevini text states that Bala is Lakshmi reborn to serve Rajarajeshwari Devi and delight Her as Her child. There is a Moolamantraatmaka Bala Sthtuhi which enunciates the 'tatwa' of the three beejas of Bala and the panchadasi if chanted with faith bestows the grace of Bala. The three beejas of Bala are Vagbhava Beeja,Kamaraja Beeja and Shakthi beeja. If one removes the consonant sounds of the Bala beeja mantra one gets the syllables "Ayieem, eem ow'', this is called 'Sanketha Saara vidya'. There is also another name of the Shakthi beeja called Parabeeja. This has a srusthi and samhara shakthi embedded in it.In srusthi kala this takes the form of Kamakala and during sthithikala it takes the prapancha Roopa(during samharakala it takes parabeeja) Sage Doorvasa has said about these three beejas in His work 'Sree Shakthi Mahimna Stotra'. However it is to be noted that Bala upasakas need not do an upasana of the srichakra(by way of navavarna puja), even the nyaasas are not many when they do the upasana. They have just the moola mantra nyasa and Maathrukaa nyasa. Hope this quenches your thirst... Yours yogically, Shreeram Balijepalli Purity, Powers, Parabrahmam...
