Guest guest
nsv1951 Respected Shreeramji, I got initiated Shri Mahaganapathy Moola Mantra from my beloved Guru long back and he is now in a far off place. I got a small book published by Bhuvaneswari Peetam, Pudukottai, edited by learned Shri Thiruvengadu Muthuswamy Sastrigal. He has given Japa vidhanam for Mahalakshmi's beej mantra " SHREEM " single letterd moola mantra. He has advised to recite for twelve lakh times to get good results. Kindly clear my doubt. 1. Is it necessary to get initiation for this mantra (shreem) 2. Some Srividya Upasakas are of the opinion, that since I got initiation for shri Mahaganapathy moola mantra and continuing the recitation, and Shreem is part of Mahaganapathy mantra, it is not neccesary to get initiation for Shreem again. Kindly enlighten me,with your kind views supported by relevant clauses in Mantra Sastra Thanking You, Yours sincerely N.s.Venkhataraman
Guest guest
Dear Member, Well, strictly speaking, for excellent results one should get an initiation for " Shreem " mantra also despite having gotten initiation for Mahanganapthy mantra. Having got an initiation for one particular deity and thus obviating the necessaity to get initiation into another particular deity is not warranted. The Srividya upasakas might have said that because the shreem beeja comes in the Ganapathy Srividya mantra " Hreem shreem ....sarvajanam me' vasamaanaya swaha " The basis for this is the way of initiation of the Ganapathy mantra. There are two ways of initiation into the ganapathi mantra 1. Vaideeki 2. Tantreeki If you have got initiation in the first marga then you have to get initiated again for " shreem " beeja. If you have got initiated into the second marga then seperate initiation is not necessary. This subtle fact is not known by many Srividya upasakas and they blindly dole out such advices. " Mantra ratna sudhakara " vouchsafes such an approach. However, I would advice on the safe side to get initiated into the " shreem " beeja even if you have got a tantreeki initiation. Tantreeki initiation would mean activiating each beeja for a specific purpose. There is a specific purpose and a general purpose for a beeja to be activiated. More on that later. Vaideeki initiation does not lay stress on the beejaaksharas and it is given more to perform the ganapathi homa in the vaideeki way. (Ofcourse mantra japa is also included, I do not deny that). Thus, you should first ascertain which way you got the initiation. If your Guru says Vaideeki then you have to get an initiation for " shreem " beeja also. Just because it is an ekaashara beeja deeksha one should not take it lightly. However, if you are bent upon doing the sadhana for this beeja without initiation, I wouldn't stop you. Just that you will not get full results maybe 75% of the results just based on your sincerity and dedication to 1. Shabda brahman inherent in the beeja 2. Lakshmi devi, if you ascribe a rupa to the nama 3. Purpose 4. Burning desire to increase prosperity. I wouldn't term this as potentially dangerous like say Prathyangira Mhaamantra japa or some other kundalini raising mantra. However do not focus on lower chakras when saying the beeja but do a positive visualisation in the heart with say ana dditional component of a green fire(harithaathmaka agni) to accelerate the process. Go ahead do it. But my sincere appeal is to get initiated from your guru or a good upasaka. Shriyam dhaapaya dehi me' swaha!
