Dear Suhrudh, Thanks for the reply. No Iam not running any spiritual organization. My mind is enough, it is an organization in itself! Haha! I will answer this one email, and run to School, else Nick will fry me alive and eat me instead of his frenchfries with his mac. Once my project is complete I will spend some time with you for the topic of Mantra-drashtha! Ok now to answer your query regarding mantras--- Mananat trayate' iti mantraha--As much as

properly repetitively chanted,so much does the sound formula protects. This is the correct expansion of the word "mantra". Many read it from books as "Manah traayathe ithi mantraha"--that which saves one's mind is mantra. This is not exactly the truth. Sometimes a mantra breaks the mind and makes a person grow mad with imporpoer practice. Mananaath is a combo word again in sanskrit like the combo meal which Nick so "healthily" eats in McDonalds. Sanskri words describe a thought-unit more than a singular word like English. It means "Correct and repetitive". So a mantra has the following fourfold effects if a "Manana" is done--- Protective--Protects the chanter by creating a forcefield Directive--Directs the chanter to a particular destination(good in the case of su-mantras and bad in the case of ku-mantras) Ameliorative--healing and corrective functions Illuminative--enlightenment(only for su-mantras) When uttered with shraddha in a particular sthana in the body the vibes from the mantra moves from that sthana and does a poornachalana(moves circularly) creating a funnel of light. This forms a kavacha(shield) from head to toe and this is the best etheric shield which one can have. This Kavacha prevents the person from falling into wrong directions and allows one to proceed in the right direction. Ultimately, through long years of regular practice it would cause illumination of the mind. Now, Suhrudh, there are some keys to a mantra and its beneficacy. A casual utterance will delay the results. Keys... 1. Sound vibration 2. Rhythmic utterance--Upamshu,vaikhari and manasika(three main forms out of 16 different types of utterances) 3.Intent-sankalpa 4. Intonation 5.Colour 6.Sthana 7 Mantric glyph 8. Guru 9.Visualization 10. Faith in the mantra. 11. Mala(rosary)- or fingers 12. Mudra 13. yama and niyamas for the mantra 14. Mantra asana 15. Dhoopa deepa. Suhrudh, my college shuttle is coming I got to catch it else I will end up in Nick's platter! Idly for me though! I have named this email part-1, wait for more parts. Also, this week I have Statistics and Capital budegting and Options and futures case studies, so excuse me. Yours Yogically, Shreeram Balijepalli
