Who ever chants the lines above with utmost sincerity and devotion are bound to be freed from sins not only that when the above lines are chanted with Bhakti and Sraddha all the Gods and Goddesses and the good things of life exist as quoted by Sri Guru charitra.

Later devotees also added the following lines and gave it full spiritual validity.

Digambara Digambara Sri Manikya Prabhu digambara,Digambara Digambara Sri Swami Samartha digambara,Digambara Digambara Sri Sainatha digambara.

The chant was given by Sripadavallabha Himself to invoke His grace.

Digambara has many meanings. "Dik" means in sanskrit "direction" and "Ambara" has a meaning of also "cladness". "One who is clad in all directions" and "One who is clad by all directions" can beinferred by this.

 

Also, as you said the popular meaning is "Skyclad".

This refers to the omnipresent aspect of the words.

Since Sripadavallabha is everywhere, the moment these words are uttered He comes to that place to the rescue of His devotees.

"Avadhutha chintana" has dual layered meaning-

One layer for Him and one for us.

Him: It refers to His constant "Alochana" or "dhyana" of the Avadhutha tatwa.

For us: It means that we are relaying a message that we are thinking of Him as the Avadhutha saviour of the troubled moment.

It can be taken as an ajapa too that one can chant even in bathroom or while even cycling or commuting as a way to be in "His chintana" and his "Chintana".

Girinar Hill is a famous sidhA kshetra(Siddhakhestra means any place where one powerful siddha meditated for an aoen(4 yugas), these days we have a habit of calling everything Siddhakshetra!) of Lord Dattatreya. Lord Dattatreya performed penance at the top of the hill and one have to climb 10,000 (ten thousand) steps to have Datta paduka darshan.Girinar place is completely surrounded by fully forest area. Lions, Tigers and other animals are moving on the roads of Girinar even in the day time also. A very pleasant atmosphere can be experienced by each and every visitor to this powerful kshetra.

 

The journey to Dattatreya Padukas is said to be made light by just two chants

"Jai Girinaari"

and

"Digambara Digambara Sripadavallabha Digambara..."

Avadhuthas are by nature Digambaras both externally and internally. They have gone beyond the Shunyatha or nothingness and hence are paradoxically "clad" by it.They know the "full' or "perfect" because they know the "nothingness" or the "digambaratwam"

The moment you are open to elements, the moment you remain alike to all forms of states be it happiness(sukha),sadness(dukha),digust cum fear(ghrina),etc...you remain a digambara.It means purity beyond beyond purity. Can you call empty space pure or impure in teu terms? Purity and impurity comes with a form. Once beyond that form there is no more a question of purity or impurity! Thus Digambara is a heralding of such a state(much akin to Turiya). This is the quantum meaning implied in ths pithy chant.

You nevertheless have to ascribe a form to the formless and thus, the assay in the form of words "Digambara Digambara...." and thus invoke the Dattashakthi energies.

Digambara means Sky-clothed, clothed with the elements; this is often applied to Siva and his disciple Lord Datattreya, but likewise to advanced adepts or ascetics. Customarily Orientalists render it "without clothes," i.e., naked, applying the term to Siva in his character of an ascetic. But while the word, especially among the Jains, has come to have the significance of a naked mendicant, when applied to Siva, the third aspect of the Hindu Trimurti who permeates all things in all directions, it means "clothed with the sky."

 

Digambara likewise applies to adepts and high chelas because of their ability to project the percipient consciousness to a distance employing the power which in Tibet is called hpho-wa. They are then mystically considered to be free of all physical trappings, clothed with the sky or atmosphere and wandering in it free and at will.

Next answering your question regarding Ethipothala.

Subramanyam Garu has been there manytimes. He personally mentioned to me the khsetra mahima. I too have to plan a visit there soon.Maybe when we meet this time in India we will make a trip to Girinaar,Ganagapuram.,Pithapuram, Suchindram and Ethipothala.

This too is a siddhakshetram. In Guntur there is aplace called Maacharla and this Ethipothala is 20 km from that place.The waterfall at Ethipothala is said to be a scenic splendour.In the forest clad(Vanaambara?) Ethipothala the Dattamandiram is atop a small hillock(Guttameedha vilasina Gurudevudu!,Sainathagaru!).

The Datta is in His Unmatta state(Unmatta state is a blissfully intoxicated state--the gross parallel which I can draw is the state where someone consumes canibis or ganja is in!)Below the hillock is the Madhumathy DeviAlayam.

It is very rare(Chaala arudhu) to find such a Mandira wherein you find both Lord Dattatreya and Goddess Madhumathy devi.The rule here is that first one must have a Darshan of the Goddess and then have Datat-darshana, else Lord is said get angry!

 

The unique features of this Khstera:

1. Lord Dattatreya stays in Unmanisthithi forever.

2. Siddhas,devas,munis and rishis come in adrusharoopas(etheric forms) and worship Lord Dattatreya.

3. There are many mysterious voices/sounds/shabdas which are heard in the midnight in the temple after the tmeple is closed and many devotees say that this is "proof"(Taarkaana) for the devas and siddhas to frequent the temple.

4. The Datattreya here is with His shakthi Madhumathy(consort/wife) and thus He is said to grant varas(boons) to all who come and though in a yogasamadhinistha is soumya.

5. Mana mora krindinnuna Madhumathy Ammavaru alayamu vadda aalakinchi pimmata Dattudu darshanamu chevavalasinadhigaa Aaideekamu(It is the more of the place that one should place any rewuests or prayers to Madhumathy devi and then go with a free mind(Digambara mana?) to Dattatreya

6. This Datatreya is also called "Aadi Datattreya vaaru". Sreemadhvaaart Pothuluri Veerabrahmendra Yogivaaru went to Bejavaada Kanakadurgammathalli and then He came to this place(Kandimallaayapalle visit description in His charitra) to worship Lord Dattatreya.
