Dear All,

Vidyaranya Swami

This temple has a connection with the great Srividya Upasaka, Vidyaranya Swami. He had ordered vigrahas from Rajasthan for installation but the idols did not arrive on time and so he established his own vigraha beside the original ones.

vyAsapura-gnAna-saraswati Peetham is one of the important spiritual nerve centres of Goddess Saraswathy.Notwithstanding, the recent controversy whether to establish an IIT near the place, it remains an area filled with the direct spiritual light from Saraswathy Loka. The place finds its rightful mention in Markandeya and Brahmanda Puranams.

I, hopefully, by the grace of Goddess Vaani, plan to get the aksharAbhyAsam for my second kid there, once the appropriate age is reached. The aksharAbhyAsam done there with a particular conjurative incantation yields the maximum results by way of educational and spiritual evolvement.I'm more bothered about my child's spiritual evolvement into a flowering adult than a mere degree or two and a secure job(which is not secure these days, anyways.)

The Tantreeka Shubhaga-Vidhya rituals done there, would augur the evolvement on both these counts too. However, I should point out here that such Tantreeka rituals are not performed in the temple but must be meted out at one's own effort and expense.

The Godavari Punya Nadi originates from Tryambakeshwarapuri(Triambak), Maharashtra in the Sahyaadri hills and flows strangely like no other river does in the north-easternly direction and enters Basara in Adilabad district. From here, it flows further east cutting through the Eastern Ghats.

Paapi Kondalu{'Paapi' means 'Dark' in sanskrit and Telugu.The word 'Paapi' to mean sinner comes from the etymological root of darkness(bereft of divine light, aurically)}

At Paapikondalu, it cuts through a narrow gorge and enters the plains at Polavaram.During my childhood stay near Bhadrachalam,I remember, dolce'-nostalgically, the frequent boat trips through these Paapikondala-Godavary stretch.

The Godavary valley then starts widening from Polavaram and then reaches 3.5 Kms at Rajamahendravaram('Rajamundhry' as the White-British officers used to call unable to pronounce chaste sanskrit, which we still stick on with shameless 'pride'.) and then 7kms at Dhavaleshwaram.

Further down south, the Godavary flows through the deltaic region, popularly known as Konaseema and branches into seven streams giving it its local name Saptha-Godavary.The seven rivers are Vasisti, Vaisyamitri,Gautami,Bharadwaja,Atreya and Jamadagni. The tributaries are named thus because the Rishis with those names lived there with their ashramas and it is believed that they still roam in their Sookshma rupas there. The important tributaries of Godavary are Pranahitha, Manjeera,Manneru,Indravati and Sabari

of peace and sereneness, started roaming about in Dandakaranyam with

his disciples and then after reaching Gautami-Godavary, He started

praying Goddess Saraswathy to give Darshan and guide Him.She asked

him to take a sacred Bath in Godavari and then pick up a handful of

sand daily for three days and place it in 3 different directions in

India. One being Kashmeera Saradapeetham,Second in the eastern

territory and third in Basara. Thus these are the places where

Saraswathy devi resides in full bloom. But the loacl legend says it

is three fistful of sand placed there, which formed into

Sarada,Lakshmi and Gauri but the earlier texts have this more

expanding view of peethams themselves being installed by Him.

Narahari Maluka is believed to have performed rigorous penance. He

belonged to the very-same village There is a four-sided monolith

rock called Vedavathi, which produces different sounds on each side

when struck. It is said to contain jewels of Sita Devi.

position with a 'Veena' in hand and bedecked with turmeric. Adjacent

is the shrine of Goddess Maha Lakshmi and a little distance away, on

the eastern side is the Maha Kali temple.

thus this kshetra is renowned as Trishakthyaathmaka-Devathaakshetram.

also a belief that Lord Saraswathy is the original Mother of Lord

Anjaneya(though Anjani devi is popularly held to be the mother) and

thus there is a vigraha of Lord Hanuman there too. There is also a

Mahaganapathy Alayam nearby

also called ''Ashta-pushkarinis'' spread across the village known

as 'Indra Teeratham', 'Surya Teeratham', 'Vyasa Teeratham', 'Valmiki

Teeratham', 'Vishnu Teeratham', 'Ganesha Teeratham', 'Puthra

Teeratham' and 'Shiva Teeratham'.I would reveal their importance

next email. All this information cannot be found in websites or even

the official Basara Kshetra website, so I request three members who

have requested me to post information and my experiences and

comments to keenly read it and be benefitted.

> As always everything flows from Kalaavaani and nothing from me,

thus those who wish to plagiarise or copy these postings and put it

in their sites mentioning their names are free to do so, atleast you

spread our vedic culture thus, Im happy. In Tamizh, the

word 'Vaaranam' means " Elephant " and thus ''Vaaranam Ayiram'' means

figuratively, " With the strength of thousand elephants " (a recent

film also bears the same name). But " Vaaranam " also means " a conch

which heralds victory " in the same language and thus each time

something is copied and spread around, it becomes a " Vaaranam

Ayiram " (read to the power of fifty-score) for the original

scribe,Imitation being the best form of flattery.

> I have used the words  " Vaaranam Ayiram " because one

such 'flatterer' of mine in his blog has even copied a film review

on the same name and published it along with my article, obviously

to give a spicy touch to things. To be humourous is onething but to

be obnoxious is totally different. My original article " Mani Mantra

Mantreeka Oushadham " bears no connection with his concoted version.

(Please consider this to be an official statement).

portuttha Maarbu " (means " Chest which has been fitted with an armour " )
