Guest guest
Dear All, One member has asked me to post some information on Surya Grahana. The total solar eclipse will be visible in India between 5.28a.m. and 7.40 a.m on the 22nd of July,2009.This eclipse will occur in the constellation of Pushyami in Karkataka Rasi,Cancer Sign. The eclipse will be visible throughout India. The forth coming solar eclipse will have the longest duration of totality.A total eclipse takes place when the sun is completely obscured by moon. The Exact eclipse will begin at 6:23 am in India's Gulf of Cambay and last till 7:30 am. The total eclipse will last nearly four minutes — from 6.26 am to 6.30 am — when the sun will not be visible at all. "This is quite a long duration. At places where the eclipse is total, people will be able to witness the phenomenal 'diamond ring'," said Debiprosad Duari, director, research and academics, of the MP Birla Planetarium. The 'diamond ring' is seen just before a complete eclipse. When you see the sun getting covered, a small bright spot stands out and looks exactly like a diamond ring The entire period of eclipse is called as "parvakala"(Holy period) and is highly charged(electro-magnetically) During this period one does the following: 1. Mantras(initiated bring in more benefit)--Gayathri,Mryuthyunjaya,Ashtaakshari,Panchaakshari,etc are popular choices. 2. Homas/Yagnas/Yaagas/Havan 3. Pithru Tarpanam(Swargeeya people get immense benefits and they bless their kith and kin when Pithru tarpana is done) 4. Daanam(Charity) 5. Athma-Dhyaanam(Meditation on self) 6. Veda mantra/Sholka/Suktha pathana/Parayana 7. Samudra Snanam/Ganga Snanam. Lunar eclipse it is said yields 100 times the result whereas Solar eclipse is considered more powerful and it is said to yield 1000 times.(Some say Lakh and crore respectively and yet others say hundred purascharanas and thousand purascharanas respectively).Eclipses have strange gravitational effects that multiply the effect of our sadhana. This has more to do with the Kundalini Naadi sanchalana in the interior chambers of Sukshamana Naadi. In Canada, while working as the Chief Accountant of a big organization, I had the Bhagya to be in the midst of a total solar eclipse.(Then again in USA a couple of times).I did not want to miss the opportunity by sitting in my office and watching my laptop screen analyzing excel sheets!I used my paid leave and took leave for the day and utilized the solar eclipse to the hilt for various sadhanas. Solar eclipse in Antartica-Image Courtesy NASA--May 4,2008 I started the day very early and after the srichakra puja, I started doing various Srividya kriyas, mudras, mantras and even managed to do a small Homakriya using a copper Homakundam outside. The effect was mindblowing! I do not want to say what happened for the sake of privacy but believe me, it was a tremendous experience, the benefits of it which I still reap! Now, again fortuitously, Im caught in another solar eclipse here in India and you Betcha! what Im going to do! It is believed that every action performed during the period of eclipse yields multifold results and that is exactly the reason why it is imperative to maintain one's purity and discipline during eclipse.Macrocosm displays inherently and subtly in our personal microcosmic shareera and thus the Universe is contained within our system and therefore, during eclipse we are charged along with the atmosphere surrounding us. There is also an interesting story regarding the occurrence of Surya Grahan. It happened during the Samdura Manthana (churning of ocean) episode in the Puranas. Rahu (Demon) and Mohini, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, are the main characters in the incident. >
