Guest guest
Namaste, Alright! Alright! I won't use that mantra! For God's flippin' sake buddy, I just read the mantra in a book and I thought it kicked ass because the mantra pertained to a form of Maa of which She comes and visits me in (during my dream state)!!!! If I knew it was so precious I wouldn't have used it! I ask you then, why do tantrics write books in friggin' english and sell them at local mainstream bookstores? This is ONE reason why I am upset at the writers and publishers of these manuals: If it is SOOO sacred and all that jazz then don't put the mantra in print!!! If I offended anybody...actually, no, I intended to be a prick! Prevent lame-o's like me from swinging these mantras around in the air and don't make english books with these " holier than thou shalt speaketh " mantras in them! For Christ's sake! Look, buddy, all I know is that I love Maa. And I feel Her love for me. I thought I could fit into these little chat groups...but it seems that formality overtakes the position of bhakti. If my Maa can allow two towers to be bombed, women to be pimped, beaten, and raped...and people to point there fingers and say it's bad...then I'm sure She'll excuse little miniscule me from using Her mantra like it were a song title from a top-forty's music chart. THAT'S JUST HOW I FEEL! Oh well, if I be a rotten apple than let me writhe with worms, maggots and bugs-and me being the apple-BITE ME! Love always and forever, Your Saiva Siddhantin that chooses to never fit in; Shyam. ____ Send your holiday cheer with http://greetings..ca
Guest guest
Mantras are by tradition secret, but there is the story of Ramanuja who was told that the Vaishnavashtakshari Mantra is secret and if given to any one without Guru's permission will go to Hell. So Ramanuja went to the market and gave it to all. When asked why he said all those who heard will go to heaven so he does not mind going to hell. - Shyam Wazir Monday, December 31, 2001 1:49 AM sentimentality is one thing, but crying like a little baby???... Guest guest
Namaste all! I think that since Devi pervades all, is within every part of prakriti, as she is prakriti herself, that there is no harm in giving her mantra, to those who are sincerely devoted to her. The only danger was those who may misuse her mantras, those of asuric temperments. The Goddess herself is speech (Vak) in the Vedas, our oldest texts, and as speech, she pervades all levels of speech, even the sacred mantras. Does this mean that even saying Devi's name is forbidden? A mantra is a subtle form of the devata. Likewise, the yantra and murthi are physical representatives of a mantra. Again, does this mean that by looking at an image of Devi, that it is forbidden, as also with mantra? Menonji has demonstrated the example of Ramanuja and sacred mantras. We also remember the other great Vaishnava, Shri Chaitanya, who also chanted the so-called 'sacred mantra' of Krishna (note sometimes seen as the male form of Lalitha-devo or her son), everywhere and liberated many people. But, I think it was made not so much 'forbidden' to speak such mantras, but rather in order to keep purity of the mantra (as to pronounciation etc.), when received from Guru to disciple, as it was a personal transaction, one was not so much to 'not teach' the mantra in public, but only to those who were true bhaktas. Gurudeva Sivaya Subramuniyaswami also said something along those lines, in one of his lectures. www.gurudeva.org. Let us all love Maa, in all her forms as mantra, yantra, murthi etc., for she pervades all! -R - menon Monday, December 31, 2001 5:40 PM Re: sentimentality is one thing, but crying like a little baby???... Guest guest
yes indeed. In Sri vidya Kaula sampradaya, Parasurama in his Kalpasootra says " Swa Mathru Jaaravat Gopyathaa " and Rajyam Deyam, Shirodeyam, Na deyan Shodashaakshari " . But as you said it is to maintain its purity. I am in the process of creating a book based on Umananda Natha's Nityotsava in English with a CD with all the mantras pronounced properly.
