Guest guest
Songs on Devi The great Ramprasad Sen, Swami Vivekananda and Bagavan Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa sang in Bengali. Both Bagavan and Swamiji were great singers. Swamiji wrote many songs and also set music for them. The songs sung during Ararthikam (evening Pooja at all the Ramakrishna maths) were set to music by him. You can get the cassette Ararthikam at the Ramakrishna Mission bookstalls. I was really moved by the song Guru Dev Dayakar Dheenajane ! I am listening to the song while I type this. Music has no language. It is the Bhava that matters. I was thrilled to hear the song MAA Thuje Salaam! by A.R. Rehman. It is a song to MAA. I have always wished that I could sing to MAA (Amba Nee iranganayil pookaledhu)(Amba ela nee daya radhu). The songs of Ramprasad and other Saktha Saints of Bengal are available in a series of cassettes Kali Kirtana by Ramakrishna math (3 cassettes). All the carnatic music composers composed songs on MAA. Muthuswamy Dikshidhar was a Devi Upasaka. He has composed a number of songs on MAA including Navaavarana Kirthanais. Many of the Carnatic and Hindustani musicians are Devi Upasakas. Devi Upasana is a must for attaining Siddhi in fine arts. This is accepted from the Days of Poet Kalidasa. Upasana of MAA RAJA MATHANGI gives the Siddhi as music is considered to be a Sadhana (Nada Upasana). Some of my favourite songs about MAA in Carnatic Music are Seethamma Ma Amma Maa mava sada janani, Mahishasurasudhani I will locate the other songs and send you a mail. You can also try Amba Gana Vaibhavam By Sri Ganapathi Sacchidananda Swamigal who is famous for his Nada Upasana (Upasana through Music). The other cassettes are Bhakthi Mala - Sakthi - Songs of Saint Surdas and Swami Bramhanand sung by Bhimsen Joshi and Shrudhi Sadolikar. - Music today MAA- eight new Bhajans - by Jagjit Singh - great music. I request all members to post a list of cassettes /cds of songs of MAA in any language or system of music, which they think are worth listening to. About Lord Rama and Lord Krishna the basic tenet of the Saktha religion is the acceptance of all the Gods in the Hindu pantheon. In Devi Mahatmyam, which is the Bible of the Saktha religion MAA CHANDI is the combination of the Sakthis of all the gods. She is called VishnuMaya and Narayani. Ya Devi Sarvabhudheshu VishnuMayethi sabdhitha, Namasthasyai, Namasthasyai, Namasthasyai, Namo Namah ! The Narayani Studhi in the 11 th chapter is the most famous of all the Sthudhis where she is called Narayani throughout. My favourite Dhamshtra Karalavadane, Shiromala vibhushane Chamunde, Mundamadhane Narayani Namosthudhe !!! In the first chapter it is Bagavan Vishnu who slays the Asuras Madhu and Kaitabha. Mahamaya is the Sakthi or power. You can also go through message no. 34 from Matrka 7 dated 11/12/2001 where the creation of the universe according to the Saktha concepts is explained. So there is absolutely no bar on the worship of any God and the question of displeasing MAA does not arise. This is the doubt, which arises in the minds of many Sakthas. MAA is your Ishtadevata (favourite Deity). That does not mean you cannot worship other deities. Even among the different forms of MAA you may have your favourite Deity. Maa Mariamman, Maa Lalitha, Maa Kaali, Maa Bhuvaneshwari, Maa Durga or some other form. But a Saktha worships MAA in all her forms though one particular form will be his favourite. I pray to Lord Rama, Lord Krishna (Pandurangan and Guruvayurappan.)(Krishna Hridaya Kamalavasa), Lord Bhairava, Bajrangbali Hanuman, DharmaSastha, Lord Raja Karuppannaswamy (you may not have heard of him) and Lord Vigneswara (who gave me good marks in my examinations) every day and visit temples of all the deities. But I am a Theevira Saktha. Saktha is one who believes that the Ultimate reality, the Creator of the Universe, the Supreme power is MAA. Let us pray for the blessings of MAA Jai MAA KAALI !!!
