Krishna and Kali

Many Sakthas believe that Lord Krishna and MAA KAALI are the same.

According to Thodala Tantra -

Tara devi Meena roopa, Kamala Kurma rupini

Doomavathi Varahah syadhi Chinnamastha Nrisimhika

Bhuvanesi Vamanah syath Mathangi Ramamoorthika

Tripura Jamdhagnysath Balabadrasthu Bairavi

Mahalakshmi baveth Buddhah Durgasyath Kalkirupini

Swayam Bagavathi Kali Krishnamurtih samudh gada

Translation

Maa TAARA- Mathsya Avadhara

Maa Kamalathmika - Kurma Avadhara

Maa Doomavathi- Varaha Avadhara

Maa Chinnamastha- Narasimha Avadhara

Maa Buvaneswari - Vamana Avadhara

Maa Mathangi - Rama Avadhara

Maa Tripura Bairavi- Parasurama Avadhara

Maa Mahalakshmi - Buddha Avadhara (I suppose means MAA SHODASI)

Maa Durga - Kalki Avadhara

MAA KAALI- Krishna Avadhara

MAA BAGALAMUKHI is missing in this sloka. But MAA DURGA is mentioned

as a Dasa Maha Vidya.

Thodala Tantra is the text used commonly in Bengal. This could be the

basis for the belief that Lord Krishna and MAA KAALI are the same.

Historically there was intense rivalry between Sakthas and

Chaithanya's followers (some of them are today's Hare Krishna people)

in Bengal. This rivalry existed during the period of Bagavan Sri

Ramakrishna Paramahamsa also. There is a temple of Radhakanta (Lord

Krishna) by the side of the temple of MAA BHAVATHARINI in

Dakshineswar. Bagavan was devoted to Lord Krishna and MAA KAALI.

I do not know whether my ramblings have thrown any light on the query

raised by RL

Jai MAA KAALI !!!
