Guest guest
Havans and Poojas are part of Bahya Aradhana or external worship and the procedure for these are laid out in the sastras. The choice of the dravya or materials are not left at the discretion of the performer, but as per the specifications in the texts. An upasak interested purely in spiritual development can confine himself to the inner form of worship wherein the bahya pooja is not required at all. In the Srvidya Padhathi itself there are the Srshtikrama and Samharakrama. The Samharakrama is followed by those desirous of spiritual enlightenment and the srshtikrama for worldly affairs. If one is looking for material gains out of the worship, the procedure followed should be strictly as ordained in the sastras and it has no room for questions such as the cost of the material or whether one can afford it. One should bear in mind that the choice of dravya is not at randon, but has got very rigid and deep governing principles. You can learn medical science from books without even having to touch a patient. But, to treat a patient is different. One is pure knowledge and the other is practice in the physical plane.
