Guest guest
Om Sree Sree Durga. Could someone kindly present information on Shakti pithas. I am referring to the sacred pithas where Goddess Parvati's organs fell on the earth. I have seen listings. However, very few of the pithas can be associated with modern places. Are there any Shakti pithas in Kerala ???? I have searched the Internet for information on the pitha in Pakistan. But, haven't found much. Guest guest
There is some web information on the Sakta Pithas. The only authoritive book in English that I have found is called " THE SAKTA PITHAS' by DC Sircar. The original edition was written before partition. There are (and I sure many people will have different version )51 major pithas. In other texts there are 108 total pithas. They are located in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Nepal. Several years ago I started trying to locate them. It was a very tedious process mainly because when the various Indian languages are transliterated into English the spelling varies. So it involved a large map and magnifying glass. My goal was and perhaps still some day was to group them into vaious 'yatra areas'. I generally do 35 day yatras each year. I wanted to group them and give specific directions bus/train and most have a corresponding Shiva Mandir associated with them. So this is what I have. frank Auctions Great stuff seeking new owners! Bid now!

Guest guest
5.2 Hello, The pitha in Pakistan is called Hingula which is in the province of Baluchistan. The place is Hinglaj which is 144 kms from Karachi and located on the river Hingos. The skull of the Goddess is supposed to have fallen here and She is known as Bhairavi. Guest guest
Regarding Jalandhara quoting directly from Sircar text, " Jalandhara (lat.31 degrees N. long. 75 degrees E.) is the chief city of the Jullundur Dist. of the East Punjab. But the Pitha is located near Jvalamukhi (Kangra Dist). Again remember this text was pre partition. frank Send FREE Valentine eCards with Greetings! Guest guest
There are no sakthi Peethas in Kerala. For that matter there is only one Sakthi Peetha in Peninsular India. This is the Maa Bramahrambika temple at Srisailam in Andhra Pradesh. Though the Mahalakshmi temple in Kolhapur is of great antiquity and is mentioned in many Tantric books it is not a Sakthi Peetha. I think by the time Lord Shiva reached the Vindhyas the body of Maa Sathi was already totally cut up. Frank ! I am so happy that you have knowledge of the Sakthi Peethas. Will you please tell us about the Sakthi Peethas you know of so that we can visit the Peethas some day. I would request all the family members to tell us about the Sakthi Peethas they know of. Name, location etc. We can all help Frank in some small way in his noble work of compiling a list of Sakthi Peethas. It will be useful to us for visiting the Peethas. Jwalamukhi is a Sakthi Peetha where the tongue of MAA fell. Jai MAA KAALI !!!

Guest guest
6.2 Dear Frank, The reason why I asked about the Kolhapur temple is because it is listed in one book as a Sakthi Pitha. This is " The Mother Goddess - A Global Perspective " by V.P. Gupta and Mohini Gupta on page 96. Also, in the Srimad Devi Bhagavatam translated by Swami Vijnananda, (in Chapter 38, page 731) Kolhapur is the first place mentioned by the Goddess in the enumeration of places dear to her. Incidentally, the Saptashringa temple visited by yourself is also mentioned later by the Devi. I wish you a quick recovery from your hip injury.
