Guest guest
Dear Mr. Nair: There are a lot of Durga temples in Kerala. I think the important temples (some) that are important from the tantric point of view are Panayannar kavu - where the main deity's door is never opened;(it is near mavelikkara); Chengannur (where the goddess has periods regularly); Chottanikkara; Kodungallur; Thirumandhankunnu (where the whole hill is a Shri Chakra; and Maadayikkavu (where even now the pristine Tantric pooja with alcohol, fish and mutton are carried out. The main characteristic of many of these temples are that they have the deity installed in the RURUJITH vidhaana where there is the Sapthamathrus and Bhuvaneswari(Tripura sundari or chandayogeshwari??) and shiva. I will tell you more if I know (if anyone asks questions). I do not think there are any shakthi peethas in Kerala. Guest guest
I would like to add to the message of Sri. Menon about the temples of MAA in and around Kerala. First in Kerala MAA is known as Bagavathy. You have hundreds (I really mean hundreds) of Bagavathy temples in and around Kerala. The MAA here is mostly Parvathy, Badra Kaali and KAALI. Some of the temples I know about are 1. Kanyakumari - One of the oldest Devi temples in India - Last stop in India. 2. Mandakkadu Bagavathy temple _ Mandakkadu is about 50 kms from Kanyakumari- 30 kms from Nagercoil the district head quarters. 3. Attukkal Bagavathy temple - Trivandrum 4. Chengannur Bagavathy temple- Chengannur is near Kottayam. This is actually a Siva temple. Maa Parvathy is called Chengannur Bagavathy. 5. Chottannikkara Bagavathy temple - near Cochin/Ernakulam. 6. Kodungallur Bagavathy temple- Near Trichur - Old Devi temple. 7. Parmaikkavu Bagavathy temple- Trichur - you can visit on your way to Kodungallur. 8.Bagavathy temple inside Guruvayur temple- this is actually an independent Devi temple. 9.Mookambika temple - travel from Udipi - famous temple of Maa Saraswathi. As I said there are hundreds of Devi temples. There are I believe more than ten Devi temples in Ernakulam alone. Sri Kochu Menon is from Ernakulam and in case you want to visit these temples he can help you. Sri. Menon ! please give the location of Thirumandhankunnu temple. I did not understand why you had written (Tripura sundari or chandayogeshwari??) after Bhuvaneshwari in your message. Jai MAA KAALI !!! Could u give more information on Panayanarkavu, as to the deity, location, mode of worship etc. Also, as per what I have heard, Kadampuzha and Chakullamkavu are the only two temples where the Goddess is addressed as Durga. All the others are various forms of Kali...
