Guest guest
Devi Mahatmyam Kasyapa. I do not think we received your earlier mail. Uday has suggested a book on Devi Mahatmyam. Other than that I would recommend the following books to learn about this Great Epic. 1.Devi Mahatmya by Thomas Coburn - Motilall Banarsidass. A great book that will make you realize the greatness of the Epic. A must read for all Devi Bhakthas. 2. Sri Chandi by Swami Sathyananda Saraswathi of SHREE MAA ashram - A philosophical interpretation of Devi Mahatmya. God Bless America for giving us such a Great Guru. 3.Durga Sapthasathi - Geeta press, Gorakhpur- India - An authoritative text with no printer's devils. Unfortunately the meaning is given in Hindi, which all may not understand. Gita Press, Gorakpur has been rendering great service to Hinduism with their innumerable publications on Hinduism. 4.Glory of the Devine Mother By S.Sankaranarayanan - Prabha Publishers, Chennai. - A scholarly work by a Devi Bhaktha. - This is the interpretation according to Sage Arbindo's teachings. I had advised Sanjay about these books. There is a series of cassettes on Durga Sapthasathi from T series. They might have CDs also now. About the recitation of Durga Sapthasathi we believe that you should have the proper Adhikara for even recitation of the text. This you can get only from a proper Guru. However there is no restriction on reciting Durga Sapthaslokhi and the four Sthudhis. The four Hymns are the devotional core of Devi Mahaatmyam. The four Sthudhis are 1. Brahma Studhi in the First chapter. 2. Sakrathi Studhi in the Fourth chapter. 3. Ya-Devi Studhi in the Fifth Chapter 4. Narayani Studhi in the Eleventh chapter. You should also recite the Aparadha Shamapana sthothra after the recitation. Start with Sapthaslokhi and the four Sthudhis. MAA will soon lead you to a proper guru who will give you the Adhikara. Jai MAA KAALI !!! Sankar

What is the beginning line of Aparadha Shamapana Sthotra? I cannot seem to find it in any of the books that I have, but perhaps it is listed under a different name. Jai Maa!!! Guest guest
The Aparadha Shamapana sthothra is given on page 391 of the book Sri Chandi by Swami Sathyananda Saraswathi of SHREE MAA ashram. The Stotra is called Prayer for forgiveness. You can get a copy of the book from http://www.shreemaa.org This is in my opinion the best book for reciting Devi Mahatmyam. The prayer in the file is Apadduddhara Stotra. This is Hymn requesting for protection from MAA DURGA. Sankar

For a beginner, a suggestion is the T series Devi Mahatmayam sung by Anuradha Paudwal...it takes it through an easy pace to enable get the right pronounciations.
