Guest guest
I am aware that there is a Swarna Akardhna Bhirava in Chidhambaram. But the establishment of a separate sannadhi and the increase in the popularity of the deity was due to two people. Swamiji and Sri Sri Durgai Siddhar. A Murti of the God in Panchaloka was established By Sri Sri Durgai Siddhar in Vairam Chettiar's place in Pudukkottai. You can see the Murti in front of Vairam Kalyana Mandapam in Pudukkottai. As an Upasaka I know. About the conduct of the Homam there seems to be a reaction to my comment on orthodox religion. Swamiji always conducted Yagnas as per the Sasthras. But the question is which Sasthra? My friend is contradicting himself when he says that < Any Vidya (puranic/tantric mantras) can be recited by anyone, after getting from Guru proper. > All the people who participated in Swamijis yagna recited the mantras. They have no initiation. This practice is also according to the Sasthras though this is not the Vaidic practice in Tamil Nadu. The above injunction is not applicable according the tradition followed by Swamiji. This question was asked by one of our members during the Dakshina Kaali homam in Pudukkottai recently. Swamiji was a scholar in Vedas, Tantra, Mantra sashthra and also the Siddha tradition. Swamiji once told us " MAA is the greatest Guru. If you want a mantra, write it down, place it before MAA, take her consent and start reciting the mantra " . We have been close to Swamiji for a number of years and he guides us in our Upasana. About Homas, practices vary from Vaidic to Tantrik and also from place to place. My wife and myself were able to perform Chandi yagna in SriSailam temple after paying fees under the guidance of a Sastri. But when I asked about our participation in the Maha KAALI temple in Secunderabad, I was refused. There is a permanent Homa Kunda in the Jwalamukhi temple. You can perform Chandi Yagna anytime. In our tradition women can perform Yagna independently. But many traditions do not allow this. I have been fortunate to participate in yagnas from Kamakhya to Kanyakumari. There is a lot of difference in practices. In all the Yagnas conducted by Swamiji all the people recited the Mantras. This practice is also there in other traditions where the Guru takes the Sankalpa on behalf of all the disciples and the mantras are recited by all disciples. There are hundreds of traditions in India. No tradition is superior or inferior. There are traditions, which discriminate, based on caste or sex. I call such discriminatory traditions orthodox, as this is against the basic principle of the Saktha religion. Sankar
