5 or 6 ahutis

Dear Family

 

I have a question regarding prana ahutis. When I offer Naivedyam to Maa Kaali

during puja, I say the following mantras as I feed Her five times from the food,

using a flower petal:

Om praanaaya swaahaa

Om apaanaaya swaahaa

Om vyaanaaya swaahaa

Om udaanaaya swaahaa

Om samaanaaya swaahaa

 

But I have read about another system which adds another mantra at the end,

namely:

Om brahmane swaahaa

 

thus making six ahutis instead of five.

Now I am quite happy with the first method with five mantras and I don't intend

to switch; but I am curious to know which method is preferred by what kinds of

people. For instance, is one tantric and the other orthodox? Is it just a

regional difference?
