Guest guest
Dear Family, There is a point on which I am curious: In some temples of various Devis, you find at the foot of the Devi's statue (below and in front, at floor level) one of the following: 1) A pair of carved feet; 2) A yoni either round or square, usually with the spout pointing to the right side as you face it; 3) A yantra; or even a combination: 4) A yoni with a yantra inscribed in it. Am I correct in assuming that all these four serve the same purpose; and that this purpose is to receive the various offerings instead of the statue? Is this perhaps so that the pujari doesn't have to get up from their seat and reach up to the large statue? Or is there some other reason? I understand the logic of having a murthi placed in the centre of a yantra to make it more powerful; but in the case of the carved pair of feet without yantra, why have a second pair of feet in front when the murthi already has feet? Is it because the main murthi in these cases might be considered too sacred to be touched? Please enlighten me on this matter. Jai Maa Kaali, Loladas.
