Guest guest
Thank you for the clarification. Just to carry this discussion further; my ishta Devi was Chotanikkara Bhagavati and after some time, my attention was drawn to Jwalamalini (the name just had a very strong attraction for me) and now it is Maatangi. I do not know how this shift happens or if it is in any order. It just happens that just the utterance of the name by someone (in the case of Maatangi, it was the name of my friends' secretary; a person who I have not seen or met but just heard my friend ask for her on the telephone) Just the utterance of the name sends me to raptures. I then looked for the meaning and realised She is one of the Dasa Mahavidya and is the tantric form of Saraswati. I am into music(www.bhaktimusic.com) and Maatangi being the 'vaak devi' and also a patron of music, made my attraction even more. The Hanuman Chalisa always works for me. More than any other mantra or chant. I also recite the Devi Khadgamala almost every day. To elaborate on the blog at Sulekha, the various Gods and Godesses in the Hindu Pantheon were given various levels of hierarchy; with Easwara (probably not as another name of Lord Shiva, but as the Supreme Godhead, genderless I presume) as at the top most tier and the grama/kula devata being as in the immediate realm of pitrus. The analogy was if Easwara was akin to the President, the grama/kula devata would compare to the Mayor or the Village Panchayat Chief. If there is a problem, it would be better to approach the Mayor or the village chief, who would immediately solve problems on a day to day basis and is easily approachable with minimum protocol; rather than try to pursue the President to solve your problems. Even if you did want to reach the President, it would be easier to go to the Mayor who would then approach the Senator and so on until it reached the President. And in any case the President would have to rely on the same chain in the downward direction to pass on a solution. This seemed to me as a very workable (for want of a better word) proposition to reach the Bindu of the Sri Chakra. So the question of whether the " adima' status is the same as Kula status. Previously we were asked to worship Hanuman for overcoming the so called ill effects of Sani Dasa. But now they ask you to worship Saniswara directly. To continue with the analogy, what happens if you are the favourite son/daughter of the President. Everyone kowtows to you and you get everything done. In fact they do even things which you have not asked for. Ramprasad Sen in one of his poems challenges Kala( Death) thus. “Herald of Death, get hence! I am the son of the Almighty Mother. Go, ask your Master how many like me he has seized. I can be the death of Death, if I remember the Almighty Mother's power. PrasÄd says: Herald of Death, take heed what you say to me! Fellow, in KÄlÄ«'s name I will bind you; and when I smite you, who will save?†I consider myself to be the favorite son of MAA KAALI the ultimate authority. So why should I bother about anyone else. Yes I do show respect and reverence to all other Deities. But whatever I want MAA gives me. I do not even have to ask. Mother knows what is good for me. , " Nanda Nayar " <nanda.nayar wrote: > > Thank you for the clarification.
