Guest guest
Very much so! I think the temples in South India are somewhat more 'orthodox' when it comes to such things (although Sri Jagannath temple at Puri also has these restrictions) be that as it may, there are several Devi Temples that have no such restrictions. Kaamakhya Temple in Guwahati is open to all (as it should be) & it is a Shakti Peeth. I'm sure there are others. Dakshineshwar Temple (although not a Shakti Peeth) is the temple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and that is open to all as well. It is not a Shakti Peeth because it is a relatively modern temple (having been built in the nineteenth century) however, the Devi appeared in person to the Paramahamsa so I suppose it is as good as a Shakti Peeth. Also, for a Westerner, it will be relatively easy to get to Dahshineshwar since it is in Calcutta (sorry Kolkatta). I'm sure devotees from the South will point you to temples in South India that you could visit. The Devi, being the mother to us all, could not possibly be bothered by the contingent conditions of our birth (where, when and to whom we were born). However, I must confess to being totally ignorant in these matters, perhaps there is some good reason why some people are not allowed Darshan in certain temples--but then who can contain the immensity of the Goddess within the walls of a temple? Guest guest
Hey Dilip, Jai - I am man, and a western one and I know some temples do not allow non-Hindus to have darshan of the main murti inside the Garbagriha... Suraj – thanks for sharing the information about Mookambika! Jai! Amu - We cant enclose the Mother for She is in our hearts but I know this rules of man. I guess they made it trying to keep the vedic rules concerning pruess and the rest for it is always expected of a western that it would be Jew/christian and a meat eater etc... so the temple could be maculated. I guess that's the point. Thanks for you tipes about Kamakhya and yes, I want to see Dakshineswari, but do you know about Kalighat and Tarapith temples? Ishwar – thanks for your sweet words, we will surely keep contact. I have no way to get to Sri Lanka this time but I sure want it so i accept the invitation to be your guest in future! Many, many thanks Jai Kali Maa Rafael Espadine ______________________________\ ____ Never miss a thing. Guest guest
Dear Rafael Of course, Kalighat and Tarapith--both Shakti peeths, both easily accessible from Calcutta and both renowned for being 'jagruk' (awakened?/powerful?)--definitely worth including in your itinerary. As far as I know, neither have restrictions for foreigners. Have a nice pilgrimage. Never miss a thing. Make your homepage.
