Deity Placement

Namaste! I'm hoping someone here has some knowledge about effects of displaying

images (murties) of various Divinities, especially the Devis.

In the usual pandal for Durga Navaratri, Durga is always placed in the center.

Central placement means the display is " about " that deity. Durga is accompanied

by two other Shaktis, Lakshmi and Saraswati. I've read that L & S do NOT get

along, and if displayed together, a third Deity should be added as a chaperone.

Also, generally, Lakshmi should be to the right, and Saraswati to the left.

What about substituting other Shiva-Shaktis for Durga? Where would Parvati be

placed, if with Lakshmi and Saraswati? I have a Tri-Shakti Yantra which places

Kali at the far right (deity-view, not worshipper-view), Lakshmi at center,

Saraswati at far left. This Yantra is " about " Lakshmi (she's in the center),

and Kali at right (I think) suggests her as peaceful, not wrathful. The three

goddess here are granting health and long life (Kali), wealth (Lakshmi), and

wisdom (Saraswati).

When the Sapta-Matrikas (Seven Mothers) are displayed, Vaishnavi (Lakshmi) is in

the center (so it's " about " her). Each of the Seven Mothers rules over a Dhatu

(bodily substance). Lakshmi rules Fat, and so the Matrikas generally assure

abundance. BUT -- I have read that some temples, if there has been war and the

population has been decimated, will move Chamunda (Kali) -- normally at the far

left -- to a central position. Chamunda's Dhatu is Seed, and so she would

assure that more children will be born.

I have three pendants I want to wear together on a single chain. They represent

(in this order) Lakshmi, Kali, and Saraswati. This display of jewelry murties

would be " about " Kali (she's in the middle), but invoking her blessings for

Health and Long-life? Or assuring Progeny? (Which at my age, is not

particularly appealing!)

And if the same pendants were re-arranged in THIS order: Kali, Saraswati,

Lakshmi? It's " about " Saraswati (in the center); invoking her blessings for

Wisdom and Learning? or Brahmani's (Saraswati's Matrika's) Dhatu of Skin? What

does Skin represent? (I might mention that I suffer from a skin disease,

psoriasis. Would this display help Saraswati clear my lesions?)

Or would Saraswati in the middle be better served by Lakshmi, Saraswati, Kali?

Lakshmi likes being to the right, but Kali at the left is probably wrathful, no?

(A related question deals with the pandal for Dipavali. What is the difference

between displays of Ganesha, Lakshmi, Saraswati; versus equally prevalent

displays of Saraswati, Lakshmi, Ganesha? I suspect Ganesha to the right of

Lakshmi relates to her as a Husband, and Him to Her left relates to her as a

Friend or Son.)

All you Bhaktas will say, " What difference does it make? All the Gods are one! "

But I appear to be more of a Jnana, myself!

I agree completely...

it must not make a difference but...

Kali I keep utmost on one side, in between Vishnu, but i also have the

white Tara (yes i know...completely on the other side)

Ganesha i placed also in between (middle) looking at the East as much

as possible. (he is keeping peace?)

I also would like to receive ideas about this...

Much appreciated,

Blessings,

Eloise
