Astrology is a well regarded predictive science. It trusted in many

civilizations and have been around for ages.

But astrology is not without its flaws. How many times have we heard

the same tune when somebody goes " I thought the astrologer said that

I will be a rich by now " or " I thought the astrologer said our

marriage is a perfect one but its on the rocks " . The list goes on

and on.

I got a gut feeling that the science of astrology has not been

perfected yet. How can anybody, given the complexity of the universe,

represent it in a single chart.

Another real problem in astrology is drawing of different charts by

different astrologers. In Singapore, where I live, I have noticed

two different charts for everyone. For myself, I have two different

charts. They have been drawn up by two different astrologers. Both

have a P.H.D in astrology. When confronted, both astrologers stick to

the end that their chart is the correct one. How can anybody have two

different planet positions when born?

I hope someone can enlighten me.

Astrological chart is based on the stars/constellation through which

the planets, including the Sun and the moon pass through. The

zodiacal constellations are present in a line which is called the

celestial equator. The original authors of the rules studied the

influences of those aspects on persons and derived the rules. Hindu

astrology does not take uranus, neptune and pluto into consideration

because they are too far away from earth to exert influence on a

person's life.

Regarding the predictions, not all astrologers are equal. The

interpretation requires a thorough knowledge and a thorough study of

the person's chart. How many astrologers have the knowledge and the

time to dedicate to one person's chart?

The best astrological chart is one based on Drik almanac. It is based

on mathematical calculations to predict the planetary positions and

regarded as the closest to the actual astronomical positions of the

celestial bodies.

I have been told that a difference of about 15 minutes in the time of

birth and the radius of about 100 km w. r. t. the birth place will

not make a big change in the astronomical positions of celestial

bodies. But, this view is subject to debate.

This site gives decent planetary positions.....I'm not sure how

accurate regarding degrees, minutes and seconds.

At least my h'scope came out alright, including the nakshathram and

planetary positions in the chart.

I doubt it! both the assertion and that Johnsen would have said such a thing.

In any case " Greek " astrology has a south Asian origin, from

Mesopotamia. Plus there are considerable differences between Indian

and Hellenic astrology.

Agreed. Johnsen actually suggested many things that were thought to

originate from elsewhere actually came from India, including Astrology (in

most cases, she may be right, to be fair). There is also striking

differences between Vedic and Western astrology system.

The latter, I actually studied for a bit in a book. When I went to a free

Vedic astrology website, the format was so different for my horoscope. Some

of the signs are considered only different via language, but the system is

still different.

Namaste.

Sincerely,

Arya/Christina
