Guest guest
Introducing Mega Laxmi If you received a Diwali card with the figure of Bharatanatyam danseuse Geeta Chandran in the form of Goddess Laxmi on the cover and were suitably baffled, then you have already been initiated into serigraphy artist Arjuna's magnum show 'Shiva and the Devi', via the teaser. " The Mega Laxmi Serigraphs were made especially for the festive season and as a precursor to my [February] show, ['Shiva and the Devi'] " says the Delhi based artist of his portfolio and greeting cards. " [india's] poised to be a superpower in the world now and I thought that our deities Shiva and the three devis-Laxmi, Saraswati and Kali needed to be reinterpreted in these times. " So, while Goddess Mahalaxmi represented the rich culture and opulence that India enjoyed in times past, in Arjuna's 21st century reinvention, she returns as the Mega Laxmi. " India has regained the world's attention and symbolises power and energy. So, in a sense, Laxmi is back after a period of the country's stagnancy, with full force, wealth and beauty. The reincarnated Laxmi is savvy and knows about the stock market, IT, BPO, mobile telephony, high fashion and multi-million dollar art, " says Arjuna. " Mega Laxmi is the force behind the new India but does not compromise on the character of the goddess herself. While Shiva is beyond what we see in our senses, the feminine Devi sees all the aspects of creation and the execution of the details, " says Arjuna. " I had to maintain some of her traditional aspects, " says Arjuna, who goes by his first name. " If I had altered her too much I would have been sitting in Dubai like Mr. Husain with 100 court cases to my credit, " he says. Arjuna's next show will be held in February at the Lalit Kala Akademy and will " incorporate not just serigraphs but also paintings, etchings and even poetry " . http://www.expressindia.com/latest-news/Life-Universe- and-Beyond/241506/ http://www.expressindia.com/latest-news/Crowded- canvas/233143/
Guest guest
This is very cool. Not exactly to my tastes but I think it's important to acknowledge the Goddess's command of modern living and technology. These things are so Maya, they are assuredly Her trinkets. namaste, pr , " msbauju " <msbauju wrote: > > Introducing Mega Laxmi > > If you received a Diwali card with the figure of > Bharatanatyam danseuse Geeta Chandran in the form of > Goddess Laxmi on the cover and were suitably baffled, > then you have already been initiated into serigraphy > artist Arjuna's magnum show 'Shiva and the Devi', via > the teaser. > > " The Mega Laxmi Serigraphs were made especially for > the festive season and as a precursor to my [February] > show, ['Shiva and the Devi'] " says the Delhi based artist > of his portfolio and greeting cards.
