Guest guest
namaste I am member of this group.I am chanting devi kadga mala from the printout taken from the " files " section. I plan to start lalita trisati chanting also. I was told that these stotras should not be chcnted without initiation as it will be destructive( i read on web also that this should not be chanted without initiation). I am chanting kadgamala daily and suddenly this information worries me. Is it still okay to do chanting of kadgamala and trisati and leave it to mother or should i stop chanting and get guru initiation and then start ? I would appreciate responses. Guest guest
With regards to the Khadgamala Stotram, here is an excerpt from the FAQ section of the KS text available in this group's 'Files' section: Is it okay to recite the Khadgamala Stotram without a guru? Yes, because it is a stotram (hymn) and is also a mala mantra (i.e., a mantra with more than 1,000 letters). Keep in mind that the original source document of the Stotram has (to the best of modern knowledge) been lost, other than a few stray excerpts that have survived here and there. So any injunctions upon its use that may have existed have also been lost. However, the simple fact is that many, many people have recited the KS without injunctions and attained everything. Therefore, it can safely be assumed that there are no negative injunctions. see also /message/24912 , " amrish krish " <krisam76 wrote: > > namaste > I am member of this group.I am chanting devi kadga mala from > the printout taken from the " files " section. Guest guest
Om Shakthi Dear friends, I am a new member of this group. I am a devotee of the Divine Mother and her two divine children. I have been reading Lalitha Trishati for sometime, it is a charming and enchanting prayer. As far as what my Guru instructed, the Trishati does not need any initiation. With pure devotion, the Mother accepts any form of prayer, after all She is a Mother. If she has led you to read the Trishati by any instance, that itself is Divine initiation. -- Ravi msbauju <msbauju Tuesday, November 27, 2007 7:05:01 PM Re: lalita trishati and devi kadga mala stotra With regards to the Khadgamala Stotram, here is an excerpt from the FAQ section of the KS text available in this group's 'Files' section: Is it okay to recite the Khadgamala Stotram without a guru? Guest guest
My Two cents: I DO NOT think that if a person chants Trisati without initiation, he is going to face negative consequences for doing it.I am sure Devi isnt going to let any harm befall you just because you havent been initiated. The intent here is more important. Thats my thought, I am sure there are a lot of people who would disagree. I could be less bothered. I agree that the fruits of a guided worship can be greater but this doesnt mean in anyways that uninitiated is doomed. Guest guest
It may be that the LS and KS are separate issues; I don't know. In any case, you now have a variety of opinions. Best wishes with your decision-making process. And from our archives, some advice for the guru-less, from " ganpra " : /message/26258 This for those who " wing-it " without a Guru. No one can do a sadhana lasting for more than 15 minutes or so. To do more than that it requires extraordinary spiritual prowess, in the form of initiation from Guru, followed by long practices of observing, chanting etc. [....] If you do not have a Guru, make yourself one. Before starting your sadhana, pray to Adi sankara or Sringeri/ Kanchi Gurus or Ammachi or Lolla, whomever you feel comfy with. If a photo of Guru is available, place it at the entrance of your home, prefrably facing the entrance, adorned with kumkum. Pray with " Guru brahmah, gurur vishnuh...... " ask them to guide, teach you how to do the correct sadhana. Ask them or rather beg them to correct any mistakes in your sadhana. Once finished praying, submit your sadhana at the feet of your Guru and beg him/her to correct the mistakes (rituals, pronunciation etc) and submit it to HER. [...] Only Guru knows how to submit it to HER as He is HER. After doing all this, suddenly, you feel that you should not do even the sadhana you are doing, take it as Guru's Order and stick to simple slokas [....] , " amrish krish " <krisam76 wrote: > > namaste > I am member of this group.I am chanting devi kadga mala from > the printout taken from the " files " section. Guest guest
Devi has no will. She is life. Life without meaning. If you support life then you are one with Devi. If you do not support life you are not one with Devi. This is the reward, you either are one with Devi or you are not one with Devi. there is no Devi punish this or Devi punish that. What is is, what isn't isn't. It may seem someone is being punished through their actions but maybe they simply are not one with life. So life is not supporting their values, actions, etc.... Thus if one aspires to be one with Devi and life then they are not going to be punished. Devi is the self arising unconditional nature of ones own self. Shakti. Her being is everything and nothing. You would have to pinpoint Her first before She could punish something. No. Rather, we humans punish everything. And then we wonder why.... - " Aditya Kumar Jha " <aditya.kr.jha Wednesday, November 28, 2007 11:36 AM Re: Re: lalita trishati and devi kadga mala stotra > My Two cents: > > I DO NOT think that if a person chants Trisati without initiation, he is > going to face negative consequences for doing it.I am sure Devi isnt going > to let any harm befall you just because you havent been initiated. The > intent > here is more important. Guest guest
Dear friends Here is what I have heard from some Gurus, please do correct me if I am wrong. There are a few differences between Upasana and prayer. Prayer is and can be done only by bhakti. Prayer may or may not have any wants / needs of the bhakta attached to it. To grant or not grant is left to Her. She knows ones karma and what is good or bad for the bhakta. The answer may at times be 'no' but that again will only be for bhakta's own good. Prayers can be done with or without initiation. Prayers are a joy for the soul and the Almighty too. Singing the Trishati in the form of a song can offer immense pleasure to both the bhakta and his Mother. Prayers can have a language or just a mental connect with the Goddess. Upasana is to completely bond the Goddess to one's soul, for that, it can never be done without an initiation. A guru initiates our precise upasana only if he feels our Karma can handle it our our past / present / future is in line with what the Upasana devatha can offer. Upasanas are generally in Mantra forms. Sloka's may or may not be used for upasanas. There are specific and precise rules and regulations to follow on upasanas and could be quite rigorous for todays samsara humans, not impossible, but difficult. Even the minutest of dialects can guide the energy differently. If you do not have a Guru, you can go with a aatha based Guru, as some one suggested, the photo will do, but the level of Bhakti is key. When the Guru feels that your bhakti is negating the Karma, the Guru can initiate from inside you or through another Guru or medium. So depending on the intent of the bhakta a prayer or upasana can be done. As some one earlier pointed out, the Mother cannot and will not do any negative effect, it is our own karma that does any effects at any time. The more the bhakti, the lesser the karma. -- Ravi
Guest guest
Who is to say Life has no will? What a beautiful whole is born out of this Earth, and has evolved into such elaborate and interdependent forms. Devi manifests herself through Prakrti, and in other non-material forms as well. Lila, and also divine art. Life has meaning, and action has results. This does not contradict self-arising, it is its manifestation. Max >Devi has no will. She is life. Life without meaning. Guest guest
Very well explained. This should clear any doubts about initiation upasana and the non-requirement for praying. If one feels like praying, do so. If one does not, skip it. If a mode change is required, one will receive initiation. Have fun and be happy. Guest guest
there are lots of sampradaya petha in sri vidya.some may contradict with another.for certain sampradaya lalita trisathi can only be chanted after the iniciation into sri vidya, some other are in opinion that the minimum requirement for chanting lalita sahasranama/trisathi is that a person should atleat be iniciated into srividya pancadasakshari mantra and others ........no iniciation required. it is best to follow one's sampradaya ( guru's sampradaya) rather than following the books. for the uniniciates they may chant the stotra with bakti ,sraddha and intense faith. if their bakti is pure enough amba herself will send the appropriate guru at the appropriate time to teach/guide/iniciate the sadhaka into the sadhana. anything done with faith, and bakti will certainly yield its benefit.but it is always best to do sadhana without yearning for anything.do it for love and love alone. read the trisathi without adding any rythm to it since it is a mantra maala.the mere chantition of trisathi is said to give all the siddhis of all the tantra sadhana. amba will not bring negativities to the uniniciated sadhaka / for the errors in chantition.instead she will be happy that atleast my child took the iniciative to move closer to me. when an infant talks for the first time there are lots of errors in pronounciation, but this little words bring great joy to the mother. the mother instead encourages the child to talk more and eventually corrects them. divine mother will guide her true sadhakas towards her. u crawl towards her, she will hold ur hands and teach u to walk majestically into the part of upasana. priyanandha Lakshmi Hariharan <prh_lakshmi wrote: Dear Sir, Lalita Trishati stotra The famous Lalita Trishati stotra, which is a dialog between Lord Hayagreeva and Agastya in the brahmandapurana, holds one of the keys to the highly guarded Shodasakshari mantra of Devi, with which the coveted Shree Chakra is worshiped. Guest guest
Hi Amrish: Most of the replies you received seem to focus on human-made rules: " You cannot chant this unless you get that. You cannot recite that unless you get this. " In fact, the power (or lack thereof) lies only in what is recited. With very few exceptions, you can chant whatever want and your head will not explode, and you won't accidentally kill the neighbors' dog. What diksha does for you is *activate* the recitation. You see, all of these mantras and stotras operate on countless levels. Diksha can increase your resonance and take you into new levels of experience in working with the chant. Lack of diksha simply means the mantra or stotram is less " charged " and will not work with the same intensity. And frankly, if you do not have a qualified guru guiding you through, that is usually a good thing. In the ancient times, you could learn these chants only from an authentic guru. Then came mass-printing, and persistent individuals who really wanted to know a secret mantra or stotram could find what they sought with time and effort, guru or not. And today with the Web and Google, even the casually curious can rather quickly find very secret mantras and scriptures and chant away if they feel like it. But mantras are Energy, and Energy is Shakti, and Shakti is Devi. Ultimately no human-made rule can grant or deny you access to Her. That is a function of Her grace. So chant with complete devotion and surrender to Devi, and She will give you what you need -- whether that might be a raw infusion of energy, access to diksha, the peace and contentment of prayer ... or maybe just a new hobby to help use up your time. Do not prejudge yourself. Do what you like so long as it harms no one. And let things take their course. aim mAtangyai namaH , " amrish krish " <krisam76 wrote: > > namaste > I am member of this group.I am chanting devi kadga mala from > the printout taken from the " files " section. Guest guest
Shakti Thavaraja put a great truth in simple words. I have been reciting Sri Vidya mantras with a printed picture of Sri Chakra and a bronze Meru that I bought in a jewellery shop. In 2004, as I was shopping in Chennai in a jewellery shop, I saw this meru in glass showcase and without knowing its significance, just for the beauty of its shape, I bought it and later came to know through reading books and web blogs about Meru. I bought the Sri Vidya book from Raja Rajeshwari Peetam in Rochester, NY and started reciting the mantras (not all of them, but selective few). In it says that Guru Paadhukaa mantra must be chanted at the beginning. I did not have a guru so I didn't know any Guru Paadhuka Mantra. As time passed, I got so engrossed that whereever I travelled (I am a SAP consultant), I carried the picture of Sri Chakra with me and chanted the mantras from the Sri Vidya book to it, of course with no intentions or expecting nothing. One night when I was in Cork, Ireland, after doing the Sri Chakra pooja, I slept with discontent that I didn't know Guru Phaaduka mantra. That night Guru Paadhuka mantra was revealed in a dream. I was thrilled, as I realized the power of Sri Chakra worship for the first time. As I continued with the worship now including Guru Paadhuka mantra revealed in dream, in December of 2006, I obtained Thiruvadi Dhiksha in my dreams. I can't explain this Thiruvadi Dhiksha in this post as it is too long. But the point here is: Adding to Thavaraja's point, anyone can recite any mantra coming from any source, web, book, guru, friend, family, teacher any source, but with true love and bhakthi without any expectation. Rest is left to God. The fear of negativity itself will result in destructive force in one. So please don't feel negative about any mantra. Be positive, energetic and enthusiastic which will bring a positive energy in/around one's self. All things written about need for Guru's initiation, Shodhashi mantra, negativity, etc. are done out of ignorance or for economic reasons. May the Mother and Father Bless All.
