Parvati Worship

I am looking for information regarding

worship of Parvati: her mantra, yantra,

shlokas, puja instructions, utsavas, etc.

Thanks,

John

Namaste John,

I have not been able to find specific mantras for Parvati, but I have found

mantras based on her different aspects. For instance, I am a Kali bhaktini, and

I have used Kali mantras in the past, though nowadays I am comfortable with

reciting prayer just as much, if not more (I make my own chants and prayers for

it makes it more personal for me). There may be some resources for Parvati out

there, just I have not been able to find any other than ones based on her

aspects, at least online.

I have seen common resources though give the basic instructions of cleansing

yourself, and entering mantra chanting with mind as purified as possible. Then

you light incense, have the yantra and a picture or statue before you, offer

something, and then sprinkle water on your head with a dry leaf, then sprinkle

the statue with the same water. Then you chant the particular mantra a several

times (I seen commonly the number 21), and then you speak a prayer in your

native tongue. That is all I seen though, and they may not be reliable sources

of information since all who noted this were online sources.

If I come across a mantra or prayer as I read Living Goddess (when finals are

over) by Linda Johnsen, I will recite them for you in text. Which, by the way,

this is a helpful source to understand some essentials of Shaktism, next to the

Complete Idiot's Guide to Hinduism by the same author. :-) I am not through

all of Living Goddess due to my busy schedule but I am learning much from it.

Either way, these two books are by a Western practitioner, so it really helps

make things understandable.

Jai Ma!

Sincerely,

Christina

Hi John,

For additional input on the " get-a-guru " issue, see

this recent conversational thread:

/message/28287

Devi Mandir has a number of free online classes on how to do

puja, although I don't see one for Parvati.

I haven't gone through any of these classes,

so I don't know much about them:

http://www.shreemaa.org/drupal/node/721

On the topic of do-it-yourself pujas, you'll find a very short

Manansa Puja in the Khadgamala Stotram PDF (Khadgamala_SS.pdf)

in the " Files " section of this e-group. Again, this (obviously)

isn't explicitly " to Parvati " , but may be of interest anyway.

From the FAQ portion of that document:

" On pages 11 through 13 of this document you will find the briefest,

most simple condensation of Devi puja ever devised. [...] f you

wish to " ease into " your practice, you could hardly ask for a better

way to do so. If you pay close attention to the instructions,

practicing with as much intensity and seriousness as you can muster,

you will soon realize some very concrete results. "

Best wishes to you.
