Guest guest
Strangely, as Lord Shiva's beloved spouse, it is almost impossible to find information on Paravti's worship. It is quite extraordinary to me that she has gone from being a manifestation of the Great Goddess of medieval India, co-author of the Tantras, to a goddess who seems to be worshipped today principally by women seeking a husband. Is there no justice in the world? My love for her runs deep, so I'm hoping the group can help me. In the Kurma Purana there is a Parvati Sahasranma which I can use, but I have found little else to guide me. Thanks so much, John
Guest guest
Indeed. I myself was surprised that I didn't find any mantras dedicated to her. I could find some on other manifestations of her, but not entirely " Parvati. " However, I think not that God would have problems with you chanting Parvati prayers of your own creation. ;-) Is devotion not what comes from the heart? It is an idea to consider if you are like me and like to do creative writing. I also sometimes find things created by the self more precious since they come from one's own work, so to speak. It is not to say no one should use mantras if they can. I will admit that I sometimes worry pronouncing Kali mantras the wrong way, so I use prayer very, very often. But Devi loves all, so I need to get over this fear at some point. Jai Ma! Guest guest
Hi John: Don't get stuck on names. Parvati is merely one possible appellation for the " base form " of Devi, when considered in any of Her myriad manifestations associated with Shiva's countless forms. In fact, it is mainly just a descriptive -- " daughter of the mountain " -- of the Devi. As Bhaskararaya taught, " parvatasya apatyam strI pArvatI. " Any prayer, mantra or hymn to Devi goes to Parvati, and vice-versa. Consider that Parvati is but one (#246 to be precise) of the thousand names contained in the greatest hymn to Devi, the Lalita Sahasranama Strotram. As each name in this hymn is a powerful mantra in itself, the mere recitation of the name " PAAR-va-TEE " is all you need, if you wish to use it as mantra. But in the end it is not the name that matters; only the reality that the name conveys. aim mAtangyai namaH , John Houseman <jthouseman wrote: > > Strangely, as Lord Shiva's beloved > spouse, it is almost impossible > to find information on Paravti's worship. > It is quite extraordinary to me > that she has gone from being a > manifestation of the > Great Goddess of medieval > India, co-author of the Tantras, > to a goddess who seems to be > worshipped today principally > by women seeking a husband. > Is there no justice in the world? > > My love for her runs deep, > so I'm hoping the group can > help me.
