Repeatedly people ask me or tell me they want to QUIT, be spiritual, practice meditation, have more time to study. Great saint MEERABAI's guru Raidas made shoes all his life. The One is He, the Two His Sweet Grace In Three He stood, in all the Four witnessed, The Five He conquered, the Six He filled, The Seven Worlds pervades, manifests the Eight. ~Tirumantiram, Invocatory Verse 1 What is that One, the Two, the Three, the Four, the Five, the Six, the Seven, and the Eight? The One is He : The One is Shivam, the Eternal Auspiciousness, the Absolute, One without a second. Two His sweet Grace : The Two is the inseparability of Shiva and Shakti - the Absolute Reality and the Pure Being of Consciousness and Bliss (Sacchidananda). Shiva is manifest through Shakti, His very Grace. In Three He stood : The Three is the triplicity of conceptualized Godhead representing the triad functions or powers of creation, sustenance and dissolution personified as Brahm, Vishnu and Rudra. In all the Four witnessed : The Four are the four books, the holy Vedas Rigveda, Samaveda, Yajurveda, and Atharvaveda, knowing the essence of which one knows Shiva. The Five He conquered : The Five are the five enemies of mankind lust, anger, greed, ego, and attachment. He is to be found once one overcomes or conquers the five enemies from within. The Six He filled : The Six are the six philosophies associated with the Vedas Nyaya, Vaisheshika, Sankhya, Yoga, Purva-mimamsa and Vedanta. The Seven Worlds pervades : The Seven are the seven higher worlds of existence bhuloka, bhuvarloka, svarloka, maharloka, janaloka, tapaloka and satyaloka, associated with the seven higher chakras. Manifests the Eight : The Eight are the eight `elements' of ancient Vedic scheme earth, water, fire, air, sky/space, the sun, the moon and the asterisms (nakshatras). In this one invocatory passage, Mahasiddha Tirumular has plainly declared that Shiva is alone is all this. It is Shiva alone that is the various forms, the various worlds, the various manifestations. It is from the Bliss of Shivam that we unfurl into existence; it is in the Bliss of Shivam that we live in a temporary duality; it is in the Bliss of Shivam that we merge back into Oneness. Om is the Eternal Sound Supreme. Of that all other sounds are born. Panchakshara Stotra; Namah Shivaya Panchakshara Stotra means the Hymn of the Penta-Syllabic, and glorifies Shiva through the Yajurvedic penta-syllabic mantra Namah Shivaya. Once five syllables NA MAH-SHI-VA-YA-- are prefixed with the monosyllabic mantra AUM to form the Hexa-syllabic mantra AUM NAMAH-SHIVAYA--normally use in chanting. The Panchakshara Stotra as well as Shadakshara Stotra glorifies the Lord with the utmost beauty. To the One embodied in the syllable na, adorned with a serpent garland; To the One embodied in the syllable ma, honored with the waters of Mandkini To the One embodied in the syllable shi, who, like the Sun, To the One embodied in the syllable va, venerated by Vsuki, To the One embodied in the syllable ya, who takes the form of a Yaksha, That Subtle is Sivayanama Thus is He in that Mantra, Manifest and Subtle. Five, one element each: Ether, air, fire, water and earth. The sixth element represents the Spirit that bestows LIFE to the beings formed by the five elements. NAMH SIVAYA, It is a call for enlightenment benefit on three level, mental, emotional and astral level, He Permeates, Sustains and Nourishes our Physical, Casual and Subtle. Shadakshara Stotra ; Aum Namah Shivaya. Shadakshara Stotra means the Hymn of the Hexa-Syllabic, and is a magnificent hymn glorifying Shiva through the universal Shiv six- syllable mantra - Aum Namah Shivaya. The Hymn of the Hexa-Syllabic comes to us from the celebrated and volumious text, Rudra-Yamala Tantra. The Rudra-Yamala Tantra that exists today is thought to be a fragment of the original text, yet it contains hundreds of prayers to Shiva and Shakti, including its own version of Thousand names of Shiva -Shiva Sahasranama - and Thousand Names of Bhavani -Bhavani Sahasranama. Unto the aum in union with bindu, Hosts of beings, men and Devas, embodied in the syllable na, Forever be our salutations. To the great Effulgent Being, embodied in the syllable ma, that transcendent Self, To the all-Auspicious, all-powerful Lord of the Universe, embodied in the syllable shi, Unto Him garlanded with the serpent Vsuki, embodied in the syllable va, To the all-pervading Great Lord, embodied in the syllable ya, Jyotirlingam Shrines The Aum is time, the Aum is space, The Aum is the Jyotirlingams twelve, The Aum is verily Shiva Himself. Aum Namah Shivaya. Hymn of the Twelve Jyotirlingas Somanatha in Saurashtra, Mallikarjuna in Srisailam; Mahakala in Ujjain, Omkara in Mamaleshvara; Vaidyanatha in Parali, Bhimashankara in Dakini; Ramesha in Setubandha, Nagesha in Darukavana; Vishvesha in Varanasi, Trayambaka on the banks of Gautami; Kedara in the Himalayas, and Ghushmesha in Shivalaya. He who remembers these Jyotirlingas morning and evening, Shall wash away the sins of seven births. ~by Adi Shankaracharya The twelve Jyotirlingam Shrines of India, exist on holy sites where the ancients discovered svayambhu (self-manifest) Shivalingams. The first mention of the twelve Jyotirlingams can be found in the Shiva Purana, Shatarudra Samhita Kotirudra Samhita. Let look at twelve Jyotirlingam Shrines and ask two poignant questions: (1) Why exactly are there twelve shrines? (2) What is the basis of the geographical positioning of the twelve Jyotirlingams? TIME and SPACE ---Let us first consider the number twelve. Twelve represents, esoterically, both space as well as time. Twelve is the number of months in a given solar year (time), and twelve is the number of constellations that divide up the heavens above (space). For the ancients, time measurement was based on the movement of the celestial bodies through the twelve constellations (signs of the zodiac) that divide up the heavens. Movement of the Sun through one constellation was one solar month, and movement through all twelve constellations was a solar year. So, we can see how the number twelve connects both the idea of space and time. There are twelve Jyotirlings, each associated with a different zodiacal constellation. The enumeration of twelve Jyotirlings connects Lord Shiva with the idea of space-time. SABMA SDASHIV is ajanma, If we look at the geographical positioning of the Jyotirlings or look carefully at a map showing the locations of the twelve Jyotirlingam Shrines, it is fairly easy to see that a majority (7 out of 12) Jyotirlings are in west-central India in the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The rest are dispersed in various other states. WHY - Why are these temples located where they are? If we take another careful look at the map and begin connecting the dots in a certain order from one shrine to another, the answer becomes astounding. Try this -- using curved lines connect the Jyotirlings in the following order: Nageshvar, Somanath, SriSailam, Omkareshvar, Mahakaleshvar, Trayambakeshvar, Bhimashankar, Grishaneshvar, Vaidyanath, Vishvanath (Varanasi), Kedarnath. When you connect these eleven, you will see a rudimentary 3-like shape on the map. Now, draw a curve from the center of that 3 to Rameshvaram, and there it is we have something resembling the PRANAV NAAD, primordial sound Omkara AUM! When the dots are connected appropriately the twelve shrines of Shiva display the PRANAV NAAD, primordial sound Omkara AUM! The geographical situation of the 12 Jyotirlinga manifest into PRANAV NAAD, primordial sound Omkara AUM!, AUM IS THE SOUND MENIFESTATION OF SUPREEME BEING BOUND BY SPACE AND TIME WHO IS UNMENIFESTED BEYOND SPACE AND TIME. SHIV is beyond time and space. Aum is the imperishable syllable. Aum is the Universe, and this is the exposition of Aum. The past, the present and the future, all that was, all that is, all that will be, is Aum. Likewise all else that may exist beyond the bounds of Time, that too is Aum. (Verse 1, Mandukya Upanishad ).
