Guest guest
Thought people might enjoy these. The reviewer says they are ancient prayers from 5000 BCE but doesn't give any source. If anyone knows of one, i'd love to know. Maybe the book has it footnoted. This resembles some early writings about Vac and Virat, and maybe some of our Sri Sukta knowers can tell us more, but i have never seen anything in quite this form, so am guessing this is Gidwani's reformulation. Max Is God a Woman? Woman's Status in Ancient India as presented in Gidwani's Return of the Aryans [by Bhagwan Gidwani; review] by Jadunath Trivedi the Hymn of Creation as it was then known in Bharat Varsha...: Then nothingness was not, nor existence then,_ Nor air nor depths nor heavens beyond their ken_ What covered it? Where was it? In whose Keeping ? _In unfathomed folds, was it cosmic water seeping ?_ Then there was no life, no birth nor death,_ Neither night nor day nor wind nor breath,_ At last One sighed a self sustained Mother,_ There was that One then, and none other,_ Then there was darkness wrapped in darkness;_ Was this unlit water, unseen, dry, wetless ?_ That one which came to be, enclosed in naught,_ Arose, who knows, how, from the power of what !_ But after all who knows and who can say _ Who, how, why, whence began creation's day? Thus the ancient prayer of 5,000 BC, at most ceremonies, began as follows: Let us think of the splendor_ Of Her that is One-Supreme,_ She that is one without second,_ That She may inspire our minds,_ Our words, thoughts and deeds. To Her who is the unending Time,_ To Her who is without beginning,_ To Her, who is without end_ To Her, who began it all_ To Her, who is the seed of all _To Her, who is the source of all_ And to Her, who alone is the Self_ That She may inspire us, together, all, all. _In the innermost heart of all,_ To her, our prayer, our devotion, our love_ Source: IndiaStar Review of Books http://www.indiastar.com/Trivedi.html -- Max Dashu Suppressed Histories Archives http://www.suppressedhistories.net Real Women, Global Vision
Guest guest
Hey Max, The book under review is fiction so it's possible that it's just made up. But from what I gather it purports to be historical fiction so it may actually be based on something. Unfortunately with fiction he doesn't have to cite his source.
