Guest guest
Namaste Group: I am curious about why some Shaktas emphasize the Sri Lalita Saharanama Stotram and why other emphasize the Chandi Path. Sri Vidya seems to emphasize the Sri Lalita and others focus on Sri Durga or Maha Kali. Does anyone know the reason? I realize that those who focus on Chandi Path are more in line with Tantra, but at the same time I thought Sri Vidya was also a type of tantra. I am also curious about everyone's experiences with Chandi Path and with Sri Lalita Sahasranama Stotram. Thank you, Shankari

Take a look at the Shaktism wikipedia article, in particular the sections on Srikula and Kalikula. Does that answer your question? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaktism Or are you referring to the Chandi Path-centric practice of Swami Satyananda and Shree Maa of Napa? > > I realize that those who focus on Chandi Path are more in line with Tantra, but at the same time I thought Sri Vidya was also a type of tantra. I'm not sure " more in line with " is a valid generalization. See the quotes below (alo from the wikipedia article) on Srividya and Tantra: The Srikula's best-known school is Srividya, " one of Shakta Tantrism's most influential and theologically sophisticated movements. [....] The Srividya paramparas can be further broadly subdivided into two streams, the Kaula (a vamamarga practice) and the Samaya ( a dakshinamarga practice). [....] Many Samaya practitioners [...] explicitly deny being either Shakta or Tantric; however, [Douglas Renfrew] Brooks argues that their cult remains technically both, " even if Samayins would reject this appellation. Guest guest
Thank you for posting those articles. The Srikula group is mostly in the South where you have southern saints like Sri Karunamayi, and Ammachi who emphasize Sri Lalita Tripura Sundari, and Shree Maa who is from up North is more Kalikula that is why the emphasis is on Kali/Durga. I understand now. Yes. I was asking about why Shree Maa was Chandi Path-centric. Thanks, Shankari
