Guest guest
If you check the message archive, you will find some recent messages concerning Amma Sri Karunamayi. I don't recall a recent discussion of Amma Amritanandamayi Devi, although I know there are older discussions in the message archive. , " Ramanan " <devischild88 wrote: > > Are there any Amma devotees out there? >

Guest guest
There are plenty of Karunamayi devotees in here as well. Sri Karunamayi has much of the Shakta prayers and texts translated and transliterated along with CDs that help with pronunciation as well. Jai Karunamayi! Shankari Never miss a thing. Guest guest
It only helps with pronunciation if you want to follow her Telegu dialect of pronunciation. Otherwise it can actually be conflicting. One should stick to one dialect of pronouncing Sanskrit. JAI AMMA! Surya
Guest guest
Surya, It's even more confusing for me. I'm a native English speaker. I've heard Sanskrit pronounced by American swamis, Assamese Saints, and saints from the South of India. I sometimes here a bit of an accent in there that shouldn't be there, I think. Karunamayi for me is very clear. I don't have trouble following her tapes Shanti Om, Shankari Mahamuni Das <mahamuni wrote: It only helps with pronunciation if you want to follow her Telegu dialect of pronunciation. Guest guest
Maharani, I am also native American English, specifically NY first and then California. I've heard Sanskrit chanted from all the major scripts and regions, both here in the US and in India. From my experience, there is NO " shouldn't " as far as the pronunciation. Since you belong to Shree Maa's group as well, I am sure you would have heard Swamiji's explanation about such things. If not, I highly recommend his book " Pronunciation and the Chandi Samputs " , which explains this beautifully and in detail. All the pronunciations are clear, they are just regionally flavored. Karunamayi's pronunciation reflects her Telegu roots. Just look at way she pronounces the " S " in Shiva/Siva. This is one easy example. It is best to just pick one style and follow it. One more reason to surrender to one Guru--and certainly this should be the case for a particular subject. This kinds of conflicts always seem to come up in a variety of subjects. The right one for a disciple is the one he/she learned from his Guru. After having a firm foundation, one can explore other flavors without confusion. JAI AMMA! Guest guest
Surya, Thanks for the explanation. I have noticed Karunamayi's pronounciation of Shiva. She says Siva. I don't actually belong to the Shree Maa group anymore. I haven't been initiated by a guru or anything like that. I'm just simply trying to learn about what's going on first. I will finally see Karunamayi this month in March. It again does not mean you have been initiated or anything like that. I do prefer her style though. I'm not exactly sure why.
