I was reciting the 1000 names of MahaKali last night when I noticed

something about how she is being described. I noticed that she is

being described as being everything even foul, dirty or revolting

things. She is literally all things including Maya itself.

I personally believe some of the rituals are for people. People need

cleanliness. It makes them feel better. People fuss over this thing or

that thing. They call this dirty and that clean, but Mother IS

everything. She is everywhere. Can there ever be anything dirty?

Peace,

Shankari

Pranam. I have a question.:-) ) This has been in my mind since I

was a kid. We pray to Kali ma and I was always taught that cleaniness

and ritual purity was a absolute must. More than for a calmer form of

the Goddess. Even as a kid, I always had inappropriate ( as the adults

say) questions. ;-))

Kali ma lives, dances and generally has a ball in the cremation

grounds. I would think that that would be the most polluting place.

So, why is She really particular about purity and ritual cleaniness?

With Love

Dear Friend,

Namaskaram. I would like to share my understanding to your question with

respect to Kali Maa and related ritual cleanliness and purity. We see and

picture a burial ground or place of cremation in the normal sense as we see in

our life. With a body or at times two or three bodies in waiting, cremated ones

in which some bones have been left out and relatives waiting to collect the

ashes and the typical scene you see. Unfortunately many pictoral depictions of

Kali Maa are also on the same angle and descriptions by words or articles also

project the same. But if we go through the explanations given in our vedas and

the interpretations of the same by Adhi Sankaracharya, we will know that the

whole concept has been misunderstood.

First and foremost thing is that the cremation ground that we see in our lives

is for the naked eyes of humans and for our purpose. But the cremation ground or

Rudhra Bhoomi that is associated with Kali Maa does not have bodies waiting or

burning out there. It is a DHYANA BHOOMI AND A RUDHRA STHALAM. Devi meditates

there and celebrates her victory out there in the form of Aanandha Thandavam,

because its the place where the PANCHABHOOTHAM culminates. Namely, FIRE, WATER,

EARTH, WIND AND THE SKY OR AAGAYAM OR AAKASH. For a second relate this to the

cremation ground that we see in our day to day life and you will understand the

relationship and its meaning. So Devi Maa is actually in a very very pure place

that has all the elements of nature out there and is a culmination of energy and

force and hence the pooja or rituals associated with the Rudhra form of Devi has

to be be dealt with utmost care. So friends do not associate the cremation

ground that we see to the one that

has been described for Devi Kali. The same concept holds good for the

Yathasthanam of Lord Shiva who is said to be Adhipathi of Rudhra Bhoomi or

cremation ground. God bless all.

Regards,

Hariee

Dear Members....

Reciting kali japa on a new moon day and on deepavali days are very powerful.

but if u invoke kali ...u need to give her a naivedyam that is a fine food like

fruits and milk sweets if ur a vegetarian

in east india like W Bengal and Gauwati ....some temple even sacrifice goat and

in Kalighat that is old sampridayam...for years it is there ....as it was their

ritual...

but in dakshneswar temple on Hoogly river

our great saint Ramakrishna ji has offered nice sweet rice every day to Kalima

with fullof love , affection and devotion , see her every day she ate like a

child.

he enjoyed it seeing this ....with ecstasy.

it happens even today..... but u cannot see him physically ..but feel it when

u enter his room where he lived by the side of temple.....

hence pl pray kali ma with food u can offer..she is the most early boon

giving God

pl enjoy this bliss of our great souls......
