Thousands Throng Chamundeshwari Temple

Star of Mysore

July 4, 2008

Worship of Goddess Chamundeswari begins on first

Ashadha Friday

Mysore

Special pujas at the Chamundeshwari Temple atop Chamundi

Hill on account of the auspicious first Friday of Ashadha

attracted nearly 40,000 devotees since this morning till

noon.

The temple was opened at 5.30 am for the darshan of the

Goddess.

More devotees are expected to offer worship on this

special day with the temple authorities deciding to keep

the shrine open until 11.30 tonight.

The occasion also marked the Dasoha (mass feeding)

under a large shamiana in the vacant space to the left of

the temple under the auspices of Sri Chamundeshwari

Seva Samithi led by SEL Raju and associates.

Devotees began arriving on top of the Hill as early as

4.30 am, daring the gusty winds and chill of the

morning. Police from KR and Devaraja Police Stations,

numbering more than 500, reached the venue by 5.30

am.

Speaking to SOM, chief priest Shashishekara Dixit, said

that the floral decoration to the deity had been done with

Mysooru Mallige, while the temple yard was covered

with attractive designs using marigold, chrysanthemum

and tulsi, by the devotees.

Drinking water was short in supply although Vani Vilas

Water Works had made arrangements to carry water in

tankers.

Food served to the devotees in dasoha included bisibele

bhath, rice, rasam, kesaribath, curd rice and badusha.

Prasadam was also distributed by voluntary bodies at

Devikere and Nandi statue.

Personnel of Mysore City Corporation were deployed to

keep the place tidy and clean. Police bandobust was

supervised by ACP Jayanna and Devaraja Inspector

Chandrashekar and Krish-naraja Inspector Balaji Singh.

Chamundeshwari Janmotsava including Golden

Palanquin festival will be celebrated on July 24

(Thursday) and the last Ashadha Friday pujas will be

held on July 25, including Rudrabhisheka, the chief

priest disclosed.
