SAVE YOURSELF – SAVE THE MOTHER EARTH

Dear Citizens,

In continuation of the spirit of ESWARA’s 35th Lecture

in the Series in Ancient Indian Sciences organized on this year’s EARTH DAY on

22nd April at Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Open University, we wish to remind people of

various strata in the society about the urgent need to change our attitude

towards ourselves and the Mother Earth. According to the Indian culture we

remember our mothers and Mother Earth every moment of the day and every day of

the year and not once in a year. Whatever religion, caste or land we belong to,

whether we are theists or atheists, we have to save the internal Panchabutas

(Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space) of our body and external Panchabhutas (Air,

Water and Land - Fire and Space being immune to pollution), making up the world.

The Once attractive slogan “Industrialize or Perish†has now turned in to a

curse “Industrialize and Perishâ€.

Let us not allow the Mother Nature to be destroyed in

the name of indiscriminate “development†promoted by vested interests. With

the so called development and a changing lifestyle, pollution is mounting. The

Earth is getting hotter. Forests are dwindling. Deserts are spreading. Glaciers

are melting. Dangerous changes are coming in the climate. The consequences are

draughts, floods, cyclones, epidemics etc. The worst sufferers are going to be

the poor people and poor countries.  Let us not leave a horrendous future for

our dear children and grand children. Thought pollution is the root cause of all

pollutions. Unless we change our mindset no pollution measures can solve the

problem. Let us change our lifestyle. Wake up! Let us do as many things as

possible in the list below (or make your own list) and save ourselves and the

Mother Earth from an impending disaster.

Protection of the Self

Protection of the Nature

The Human body is like a temple. We need to keep the body and mind healthy by

keeping the internal Panchabhutas in balance and free from pollution. We need to

change our attitude towards life. We need to control our greed for money making

and merry making. We need to cut down on lavish living and wastage of resources.

We need to avoid thought pollution. We need to live in friendship with Nature.

We need to control our jealousy and hatred towards fellow beings. We need to

avoid crowded places, harsh lights, harsh sounds and an erotic lifestyle, to

live a healthy and peaceful life. We need to avoid refined and treated foods. We

need to cut down on unnecessary shopping. House holders need to cut down on

eating out. We need to restore the best of ancient Indian culture to combine

with the best of modern living. We need to respect our elders, serve them, cheer

them up and imbibe their wisdom. When we spare a little time, money and energy

to the service of the

less privileged people in the society, we will be immensely happy and peaceful.

We need to protect our earth, water and air at any cost. It is dangerous for

India to plan its development on the Western model. We need to develop our

country based on our nearly 1.2 billion population and problems of the majority

of people, particularly those below the poverty line. We need to cut down our

own contribution to the destruction of Nature. We need to avoid wastage of

precious energy resources. We need to cut down on individual transport and opt

for world class public transport system. We need to cut down our movement and

unnecessary travel. The city dwellers should avoid polluting the rural and

tribal areas. We need to cut down on the use of vehicles, electric and

electronic gadgets to the extent possible. Governments and Scientists obsessed

with high technology cannot find solutions for the global warming. Only natural

and simple solutions involving minimum technology can save us and the Mother

Earth. India backed by the brilliant Vedic

wisdom can be a world leader in fighting pollution.
