Guest guest
Music and dance is another way of an individual uniting with the Divine. So in certain aspect it is indeed as seen as a means to the lofty end of life. Music is itself an expression of the Divine for `at the beginning was the word Aum, from which all was created. This is the Cosmic Aum or Naad, the very base of all musical expression, is the grand purpose of life. Dance is music in motion or the vision of melody. The dancer plays with intricate footwork and she virtually plays the drums on her feet while her elaborate gesture language sings poetry. Music ( vocal or instrumental ) and dance together is the constant fusion of all in harmony set to thrill the spirit and seeks to life the individual above the mundane cycle of life : eating, sleeping and working into the Divine realm of the Supreme. Ajith Bhaskaran Dass is one of today's most brilliant Bharatha Natya dancers. He has performed extensively all over South East Asia, India, USA, Canada and Europe. He has performed in some of the most prestigious venues all over the world including the Lincoln Center in New York, The Performing Arts Centre of New Jersey, The Music Academy, chennai and Art House, Germany to name a few. As artistic director of his own dance company, SURVARNA FINE ARTS, he has presented an impressive repertoire of professional productions and artistic collaborations both in Malaysia and abroad. Ajith embodies dance virtuosity, speed, agility, elevation and precise placement. His sculpturesque poses and Bharatha Natya techniques are breathtaking. " It was mesmerising to see the physical manliness of Ajith's steps blending with his abhinaya that exuded the grace and feminity of Gowri, in this dance composition in the Kumudhakriya raga and rupakam talam by Muthuswami Dikshitar. In Sathyam Shivam Sundram, Ajith used his mastery of abhinaya to create the rasa [feelings] of a nayika [heroine], extolling the virtues of her Lover, Lord Shiva, portrayed as an unkempt mendicant. Displaying pure technique, stamina, imagination and even wit, Ajith ingeniously built up the momentum of the dance running through a gamut of emotional expressions, to show the heroine's confidence in her love. He kept the presence of the feminine form fresh throughout the dance item, and even in the energetic bursts of jathi [pure dance movements] with a glance, smile or graceful flick of his hand " A Review by R. Sittamparam of New Straits Time on Gowrishvara performed in June 2007. Ajit is back again, this time with another dance feature which explores the element of FIRE in its various representations. This dance work attempts to translate into movement and mood, not only the physical nature of fire but also explores the intrinsic nature of this elements through human emotions and psychological states. This exclusive one night performance entitled UJJWALA - AWAKENING THE INNER FLAME, will be staged at the Malaysian Tourist Center, Auditorium Dewan Tuaku Abdul Rahman. 109, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur on 30th August at 7.30pm See link for details: http://nmadasamy.com/AJIT/ujjwala.html
