Jessica asked:

Are there any kind of requirements as to who can be a guru,

or is it basically someone who has a great wealth of knowledge

in Hinduism. My psychiatrist happens to be a yogi - would it be inappropriate

for him to be my guru?

As a psychiatrist he is bound by the rules of psychiatry and I believe this

might be a conflict of interests, and might not be a good idea on your part as

well. When you get a guru, he/she might help you in ways that your psychiatrist

might, but I also feel that it is a very different sort of relationship. My

couple of cents,Shankari

JAI MAA, JAI MAA,

If you do not have a Guru, then the Sri Bhagwan Himself is your Guru.

OM NAMO GURU DEV NAMO NAMAH

I bow to the infinite Wisdom of the Universe; I call upon you. I bow to the

Divine Wisdom within; I call upon you! Dev Dev namo namh.

Recite Guru Gayatri when ever you can;

Sachchidanandaaya Vidmahe Guru Sreshthhaaya Dheemahi,

Tanno Brahmarshi Prachodayaat

Or

Aum Gurudevaya Vidmahe Parabrahmane Dheemahi,

Tanno Guruh Prachodayat

If you do not have a Guru, then the lord Himself is your Guru. Ask HIM/HER to

take a human form and become your Guru; any thing less then that is not enough.

Meditate with complete surrender on this thought for 11,21,51 or 108 days and

see what happens

The Guru gives his concept of God: " Marks and symbols, caste and class / or

lineage God hath none / His form and hue, shape and garb / Cannot be described

by anyone / Immovable is His Being / Self- luminous, He shines in His splendour

/ Limitless is His power / he is the king of kings, the lordly Indra / of

countless Indras, the supreme sovereign / of the three worlds of gods, men and

demons / Nay, even the grass blades of the woodland / say, `He is infinite, He

is infinite' / O Lord, who can count thy names?/ Thy names relating thy deeds I

will state / Through thy wisdom and grace "

Om Param Tatvaay Narayanay Gurubhyo Namah

Just as the carpenter gives shape to wood, in the same way Guru purifies us and

makes us successful in our concerted actions to achieve our goal.

Guruji always said " Do not be afraid to shed your tear in Love, His

Love. "

Divine Meera shed tears for Him and He gave her anand fruit.

Asuan jal seech seech, prem bel boi

Ab to baat phel gayi ANAND phal hoi

AISI LAGI LAGAN, MEERA HO GAYI MAGAN

WO TO GALI-GALI HARI GUNA GANNE LAGI

MEHLO MEIN PALI, BAN KE JOGUN CHALI

MEERA RANI DIVANI KAHANE LAGI

This is HIS Love.

Yes, Guru is identified with God, but he's only identified truly as a

representative of God when you open your eyes and see him as such. he's simple,

compassionate, and goes about serving humanity. God sends people to serve

humanity to show by example that we are not following the norm of chasing

rainbows.

If you are unsure of who is the real you, look inward and ask yourself what your

purpose, values, and needs are. Honor your strengths and don't let yourself be

guided by what other expect of you. Finally, discover your passions it is there,

you need to find it yourself and sticking with those things that stir your soul.

Finding who you really are and then making the choice to embrace you true dreams

and desires will take your life in a direction that is

both satisfying and deeply meaningful.

This is not play with words, because word and meaning is neverseparate. The

separation is there and understanding that separation is KNOWING THE TRUTH,

KNOWING HIM.

Vagrathaviv Smapriktay Vagrthpratipatye

Jagat Pitaruo, vande parvati parmeshwaray.

A mantra is a collection of sound waves which can produce a powerful resonance,

or sympathetic vibration, in the mind. The scriptures say, ' inconceivable is

the power mantra " . Mantra is, in fact, the very basis of the science of Sound;

it means, " that which liberates the mind " from the bondages of Prakrti and

returns it to the state of pure Consciousness ( " man " = " mind " ; " trae " - " to

liberate " ).

A Siddha mantra is one which has been invested with spiritual power by a true

guru. In the process of investing a mantra, the guru raises his own kundalini to

the highest point, sahasrara cakra, and then repeats the mantra, giving it

intense spiritual energy. Then he

lowers his Kundalinii again.

When the mantra is given correctly in the process of initiation, spoken directly

from teacher to disciple, the vibration of the phrase or word will actually

" strike " the sleeping spiritual Source within the individual and awaken it. For

this reason mantras learned

from books or other sources (even the internet!) will not carry the force of a

siddha mantra.

Ek omkar sat nam karta putkh nirbhao nirvair

Akal moorat ajoonee saibhung gurprasad jap

The scriptures say; " Only that mantra which is received through the Grace of the

Guru can give all fulfillment. " With the daily recital of the mantra you will

have enhanced intuition, emotional balance, a sense of well being, inner beauty

and strength, heightened sensory awareness and Increased vitality/energy .

WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT; every one spends money and takes vitamin pills, this pill

is ever lasting does not work just for 24 hours.

Throughout life, we are all tested by the challenges of time and space. This is

as true for individuals as it is for couples. Although a perfect relationship

without challenges is the

desideratum of most people, it is unrealistic to believe that intimate

partnerships are easy work. Partners in life have to work very hard through

their challenges in order to come out strong and victorious. As they recognize

and overcome those challenges, they become solid in their union. Challenges are

an inescapable part of relationships, for this is how partners grow and evolve

together. Why not make God your partner in Life why go after body of flesh,

Goswami Tulasidasji says in Ram Charit Manas.

Life does not have to be a guessing game. One can minimize adversity by simply

working with the forces of nature which are expressed by the seven creative

planets. This knowledge, originating from Universal LOVE, gives you early

warnings of pitfalls, so that you may save yourself from unnecessary misfortune

and frustration. It is designed to help and support each other as they

gracefully and joyfully move through life together.

GOD GAVE US AGNI(fire).

GOD GAVE US VAYU (AIR).

GOD GAVE US AAKASH (ETHER).

GOD GAVE US PRITHVI (EARTH).

GOD GAVE US JAL (WATER).

JOIN ME BY JOINING YOUR HANDS AND THANK THE PARMATMA, THIS IS THE REAL MEANING

OF THANKSGIVING. CLOSE YOUR EYES AND JOIN YOUR PALMS, GIVE YOUR DEEPEST THANKS

TO GOD.

THE FIVE FINGERS OF THE HAND REPRESENT THE FIVE ELEMENTS; THE THUMB IS THE AGNI,

THE FORE FINGER IS VAYU, THE MIDDLE FINGER IS AAKASH, THE RING FINGER IS

PRITHVI, AND THE LITTLE FINGER IS JAL. OUR HAND IS THE UNIVERSE. WHEN WE JOIN

HANDS AND THANKS THE SUPREEM LORD WE ARE INVOKING THE FIVE ELEMENTS, PANCH TATVA

ALSO.

Perform havan and offer ahhuti all five elements all thirtha are with you.

The Supreme Lord said:

Brahmaa, the creator, in the beginning created human beings together with Yajna

and said: By Yajna you shall prosper and Yajna shall fulfill all your desires.

(3.10)

The word yagna has its origins in the Sanskrit root word Yagna which means

'sacrifice' as in the spirit of giving, donating, and offering. The practice of

Yajna (sacred fire) has sometimes been incorrectly interpreted as 'sacrificing

animals'. It actually means surrendering or giving up something.

Next time when you are attending a Havan, with every Swaha give up your negative

thoughts and actions for the light of knowledge and noble thoughts. The

repetitive chanting of Vedic Mantras during the havan ceremony enable the

participants to think lofty thoughts and thereby conquer their ignorance.

Yajna is for the welfare of all not just the persons performing it. The act of

offering SAmidha is called 'Ahuti' or oblation. Each ahuti is made with the

chanting Vedic Mantra and of the word 'svaha' at the end of the mantra. At the

end of each offering is a repetition of " Idan na mama " which means that in

making that offering one has no selfish motives.

The benefits of Havan are two many to list .

On the Physical level the performing of havan purifies the air and the

atmosphere. The havan samagari which is made up of herbs when burnt, releases

fragrant smoke that destroys germs and cleans the air. Since the samagari

contains no chemicals there is no pollution in the air.

Spiritually, the singing of vedic mantras, creates sound vibrations, is the

basis for holistic healing. Believe only what you feel, if you feel more

energetic and peaceful, the need for outer medicine will be less.

Performing of the havan disciplines the mind. It makes us examine our lives and

veers us toward self-enhancement by getting rid of of negative qualities like

anger, hatred, pride, jealousy etc.

Socially, havan brings people together, Havan is thus not a selfish ceremony but

promotes giving, and sharing and celebrating together.

At sunrise, a subtle energy emanates from the sun and produces a flood effect.

At sunset, this flood recedes, resulting in a growth of pathogenic bacteria. A

havan performed in the morning has a bacterio-static effect on the atmosphere.

Fire is the most powerful of all energies, when we sit next to the fire, all our

chakras open up and get cleansed. The small copper havan kund used in the

ceremony is pyramidal in shape. " The smoke creates a pyramid of positive energy,

which envelops the practitioner. The fire ceremony can be conducted any time, in

any place.

" I symbolize my aspiration to burn with that fire and fragrance. I am, in

effect, offering my Self to the Divine. " . But the wisdom that comes from heaven

is first of all pure, then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy

and good fruit, impartial and sincere.
