sri yantra pooja is a complicates ritual to be performed by an initiated sri

vidya upasaka. It seems you mistake the Sri in Sri Yantra to be Sri Devi @mahaa

lakshmi. It is not so.

Actually, when practiced regularly, counting the mechanical actions such as

" touch yantra this way " and " say or chant this " CAN be relatively simple.

However, it is the focus and devotion one brings to the act and not the

repitition of the " steps " or who one is initiated by which makes the rites of

Sri Vidya such a powerful vehicle of worship as they are. This is where the

teacher or Guru is so important as an example.

I remember as a teen learning a musical instrument. There were many, many

manuals and books on theory and technique, and being devoted to the work I made

great progress. Several years later when I took some actual lessons from a

teacher that would meet me at the level I was - rather than begin me at the very

beginning - I truly began to make progress, because he could diagnose errors in

technique and execution and help me to correct them for optimal result. Again,

that is where the Guru is so very important.

I attempted to practice Sri Vidya for a number of years prior to initiation as I

could not find a teacher in the US who would accept a westerner, no matter how

devoted. I plodded on, making Goddess knows how many mistakes in technique and

pronunciation, but always offering the best I could.

When I did find the teacher,

(and it may be argued that, as the saying goes, I the student was finally ready

- having done Sri Puja as devotedly as possible without the benefit of formal

initiation)

and took Diksha I noticed that my practice seemed subjectively " enhanced " . I

asked if it was due to the actual act and rite as well as his correction of my

tech and pronunciation, but he told me that it was more an issue of my personal

need to be doing it " right " being out of the way, and particulalry, that so much

of practice is simply getting out of one's own way to hear HER more completely,

than a matter of the Goddess finally accepting me due to having been initiated.

He said that Shakti was with me from birth and even before, and that she accepts

and loves all of her children and their offerings from all perspectives, and

levels of sophistication - from the poorest mother offering a bowl of rice to

the most grand and elaborate temple rite, insofar as the offering is one of true

devotion. He did stress that following the prescribed procedures brought me

into alignment with the ancient tradition and allowed me access to the

accumulated Shakti (as Power) of the sampradaya and that would be helpful in my

spiritual developement. My Guru had actually written a book several years

earlier so that those outside the traditional schools might have access to the

rites of Sri Puja, and It was this that formed the basis of my pre Diksha

practice and I thank Goddess that someone offered it so.

It would be difficult to think of him as a " fool " .

Namaste,

Nadananda
