Guest guest
I picked up a book on world religions a while ago and saw a section on the " Hindu triple goddess. " Only, the author did not state which particular goddesses this trinity consisted of. I know that the trimurti consists of Shiva, Brahma, and Vishnu, but I didn't know there was a female equivalent. Unless...is it Durga, Laxmi, and Saraswati? Anyone know?

Guest guest
Tridevi is Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Saraswati- also represent Tamoguna, Rajoguna and Swatikaguna. Durga Sapasati explains this. Durga saptasati or Devi mahatmyam- has three portions - Prathama Charitam, Madhyama Charitam and Uttara Charitham- these corresponds to 3 devis in same order. That is also the spiritual progress of devotee- from tamogunam to rajogunam to satwika gunam. Also at the end of Durga saptasati- there is Rahasyatrayam- explaining the worship of these devis. msbauju Tridevi is a combined form of Lakshmi, Parvati and Saraswati, the central Trinity of Hindu Goddess forms. Guest guest
please note that " Triple Godess " is singular not PLURAL. Guest guest
At the same time, the trinity, as others have said, consist of Durga (or Parvati or Kali), Laxmi, and Saraswati. These are distinct goddesses who are worshipped in separate pujas. How do you reconcile this? , sankara menon <kochu1tz wrote: > > please note that " Triple Godess " is singular not PLURAL. Guest guest
Seeing his brother Nisumbha slain, who was dear to him as his life, and his army being slaughtered, Sumbha angrily cried, " O Durga, all puffed up with the pride of strength -- don't show your pride here. You are so arrogant, and yet you resort to the strength of others to fight your battle for you! " The Devi replied: " I am all alone in the world. Who else is there besides me? See, O vile one, these Goddesses, who are but my own powers, entering back into my own self! " And with that all of the goddesses, Brahmani and the rest, were absorbed into the body of the Devi, and Ambika alone remained. And She said: " You see? Now the numerous forms which I projected by my power -- they have now been withdrawn by me, and I stand alone. Be steadfast in combat. Guest guest
the three devis are three asapects of aadi paraashakti the primal power of universe. Manifestations. Some say tripura sundari or tripple goddess is the primal shakti. My experience also says so. But ultimately " eko satya , vipraaH bahudhaa vadanti " - Truth is ONE that the wise call by different names. But then I am not learned enof to write a dissertation on that. --- On Wed, 10/22/08, salharmonica <salharmonica wrote: salharmonica <salharmonica Re: Triple goddess Wednesday, October 22, 2008, 11:11 PM At the same time, the trinity, as others have said, consist of Durga (or Parvati or Kali), Laxmi, and Saraswati.
