Guest guest
I was wondering- does anyone know if Gayatri Mata is a variant form of Durga?
Guest guest
Per wikipedia: […] [T]he goddess Gâyatrî is considered […] the personification of the all-pervading Parabrahman, the ultimate unchanging reality that lies behind all phenomena. […] Some also consider her to be the mother of all Gods and the culmination of Lakshmi, Parvati and Sarasvati. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gayatri#Gayatri_Devi_the_Goddess In the Devimahatmya, Devi is referred to as 'Durga' (as well as by many other names.) If it's in that sense you are using the name 'Durga', then the answer to your question is 'yes'. See the quote Devi Bhakta provided from the Devimahatmya: /message/29954 BTW, if you're interested in reading the Devimahatmya, take a look at Devadatta Kali's luminous and accessible translation: http://tinyurl.com/5zd83e You might find it helpful. The Western Greek/Roman-influenced idea of gods as atomic chunks of divinity doesn't really work in a Hindu context. , " salharmonica " <salharmonica wrote: > > I was wondering- does anyone know if > Gayatri Mata is a variant form of > Durga? >
Guest guest
Well Durga is Kali, Saraswati, and Lakshmi. Gayatri is a variant form of Saraswati. That being said Gayatri is also Durga as well. Guest guest
Yes, I had read (and it was to my understanding) that Gayatri Mata is a form of Saraswati. However, Saraswati is part of Durga. , Shankari Kali <shankari_kali wrote: > > Well Durga is Kali, Saraswati, and Lakshmi. Gayatri is a variant form of Saraswati. Guest guest
Hi there You will get the prayoga of Gayatri in Prapanchasara tantra. You can approach anyone who performs sandhyavandanam regularly to get the prayoga. Wikipedia gives the gayatri as it is recited by most of the people - the first three paadas. the fourth paada is acquired by SV upasakas. Check rashmimala mantra for the fourth paada. Varivsya gives you an explanation of the relationship between gayatri and panchadasi. Hope this will be of help. Your name suggests you are a malayalee. It will be very very easy for you get details on gayatri from god's own country. You need not run helter skelter as there are lot many practitioners of gayatri and SV of malayalam and tamil origin in Kerala. Guest guest
Rashmimala to be recited only by SV initiates & Upasakas. Of course this is the traditional view. I leave it to the user's better judgement. I am not competent to advise.
