Guest guest
There are a LOT of films on the subject of Devi/Shakti. Most of these films show the Goddess as being closely tied to her female devotee (who is usually an orphan and thus considers the Goddess to be her only Mother). Usually some tragedy befalls the devotee (often, ironically caused by a man) and the Goddess must come to her aid. The plots are usually pretty simple. The most well known of these films is a Hindi film by the name of " Jai Santoshi Maa " But I do not consider it to be the best example. Others: Ammoru (Telugu, but is dubbed in other languages) Rajakaaliamman (also known as Tu Hi Durga, Tu Hi Kaali in Hindi) Kottai Mariamman (Tamil but has dubbed versions) Om Jai Dakineshwari Kaali (Hindi) Adhiparasakthi (Tamil) To name a few. Portrayal of women in more mainstream Indian movies: Mother India Lajja Amrapali Cheeni Kum Chak De India Veer-Zaara To name a few. , SoverAnia Twain <yonibluestar wrote: > > kia ora Ashley, > > Maori blessings. > > and others who have commented on the degradation of > women in India and elsewhere. > > on the subject of Indian films on the subject of the Devi, > of Shakti, and portraits of Indian women and culture, > can you recommend a list of films? > > films that show the richness of culture, music, and > woman's wisdom ... not the shallowness of contemporary > consumerism and patriarchal violence. > > arohanui, enfolding love, > > > Millennium Twain
