Guest guest
I'm sorry this doesn't have to do specifically with Devi, but I thought this would be a good group of people to discuss this topic with. Has anyone ever come across atheists who proceed to condescend and convert you to the side of 'no-god'? It's easier (believe it or not) when Christian fundamentalists try to convert, because you can just declare them crazy and walk away. But a lot of atheists seem to be very intelligent, logical people- a lot of them are college professors, incidentally- and it can be hard to argue exactly WHY god/dess exists. How do you recommend arguing with such people? salma

How do you recommend arguing with such people? Not arguing with them. No need to convince them of anything. Better to hold your ground with a peaceful mind. But actually i like to say that they are creating a polarized either-or out of a Reality that is mysterious and indescribable. They would like to believe that everything is reducible to terms that mind can understand, but it isn't. Guest guest
I agree here - no need to argue or convince someone that your truth is somehow better than theirs... ultimately, Devi manifests to us all in many different ways, and we don't need to worry about anyone else's path but our own. We are each entitled to believe as we wish to believe, including in nothing at all. jai maa -sundari On Sun, Nov 30, 2008 at 9:28 PM, Max Dashu <maxdashu wrote: > > But a lot of atheists seem to be very > >intelligent, logical people- a lot of them are college professors, > >incidentally- and it can be hard to argue exactly WHY god/dess exists. > How do you recommend arguing with such people? > > Not arguing with them. Guest guest
Namaste. My two cents: I don't think this issue is really about atheists. Its about inflexible rigid belief structures. Any kind of fundamentalism, whether it be atheistic, monotheistic, or polytheistic, I find hard to deal with. In many ways I find atheism a great deal more honest that many of the other belief systems out there, even if if I personally find it quite hollow and nihilistic. Jai Maa. -S.
