Guest guest
Namaste Group: I am interested in learning more about the Dasa Mahavidyas particularly Tara. Does anyone know mantras for Tara and her story? Is there a mantra associated with Tarapith, the temple? I recently purchased a book Saundarya-Lahari by the Ganesh co, and it is mostly for Sadhana. I don't really understand how to use it. Do you recite the entire text or do you recite the bija mantras that are listed? How do other sadhakas work the Saundarya-Lahari into daily practice? Thanks, Shankari
Guest guest
Hi there Soundarya Lahari is an important and integral part of Srividya Upasana. It is considered part of mantras shastra just as Lalita Sahasranama. traditional view is that one should receive Soundarya Lahari (just as Lalita Sahasranama) from a Guru - Gurumukhaika-vedyam. However, one can do parayanam of Soundarya Lahari on a daily basis. As one gets familiar with the slokas, it will take about 25 minutes to 30 minutes to recite the entire Soundarya Lahari. When one does it without initiation, one should not prefix or suffix any bijas. Another effective way of reciting Soundarya Lahari is to recite one sloka per day followed by recitation of the entire Lalita Sahasranama. Thus it will take 100 to 103 days to complete Soundarya Lahari and the in the process Lalita Sahasranamam will be done the same number of times. This procedure can be adopted for obtaining desired results too, that is, kaamyartham it can be used. This is a procedure which was highly recommended by Kanchi Paramachrya Mahaswamigal who was a very great sage in the 20th century. When it is used kaamyartham, some naivedyam is to be offere according to one's ability. Please ignore the various prayogas with bijas given in the book which can be put to effective use only by an accomplished and adept SV Upasaka (Srividya-siddha-upasaka-varya). I hope I am not stepping out of my purview in giving the above recommendations. Guest guest
Namaste: I was actually asking the goddess for some type of practice. This sounds like a practice that would work. And it's Friday, her day, which is a perfect day to start. Thanks, Shankari Enquire: 'Who am I?' and you will find the answer. Look at a tree: from one seed arises a huge tree; from it comes numerous seeds, each one of which in its turn grows into a tree. No two fruits are alike. Yet it is one life that throbs in every particle of the tree. So, it is the same Atman everywhere. --Sri Anandamayi Ma http://shankarikali.wordpress.com/ --- On Fri, 1/9/09, Radhakrishnan J <jayaarshree wrote: Radhakrishnan J <jayaarshree Re: Tara Question & Saundarya - Lahari Question Friday, January 9, 2009, 12:23 AM Hi there Soundarya Lahari is an important and integral part of Srividya Upasana.
