Guest guest
Where is the Sri Rajarajeshwari Peetham? It's just south of Rochester, New York, in the little town of Rush. There are complete directions at http://www.srividya.org/Srividya/Svtsweb/apps/directionsMenu.php And you can trust me on this, because I'm (as of yesterday the temple's) lawyer ;- ) Michael Steinberg

Guest guest
Gladly. It's a Sri Vidya temple, and the Goddess here is Tripurasundari as Sri Raja Rajeshwari--as the name suggests. There are two Maha Merus (the 3-D form of the Sri Yantra), many Siva lingams, and many other murti: Ganesh (of course), Nandi, Nataraja, Ardhanarishwara, Bhairava, the planetary deities, Dattatreya and others. In the outer area where the homam sits are the Tamil saints. There are three daily pujas and on Saturdays there's also a very elaborate day with pujas and homam that runs from 10:30 in the morning until about 2:30 or 3:00 in the afternoon. The tradition is Tamil, and Tamil bhajans are incorporated into the worship. But it's also gender-neutral and egalitarian. Everyone is encouraged to chant and participate, and everyone does abishekam; the murti are in the open for all to see and touch. It's independent of any local community; the community has grown up around Aiya's teaching and leadership (though he likes to credit Amma's wonderful food sometimes!) and includes a lot of people from Toronto, which is about three hours away by car. There's a fine book about the temple published by Oxford University Press, " The Goddess lives in upstate New York " by Corinne Dempsey. I don't know how available it is in India, however. I hope that answers most of your questions. I'm glad you asked!
